no picture after factory reset
« on: April 22, 2018, 10:03:16 AM »
Hi everyone,

purchased my Egreat A10 from Futeko in January this year. It's been working great so far, especially the ability to stream videos and music files stored on a computer in another room.

A day or two ago, however, I had to reinstall Windows 1o on the computer, and in doing so, the A10 lost all contact with the computer/files etc. Now I've created a homegroup, and configured the sharing options for the different files.

I tried several times yesterday to establish contact between the A10, Vidon (used for playing music files) and the computer, but nothing worked. It found 'Workgroup' during the automatic search for servers, but clicking on Workgroup listed a whole bunch of stuff I've got on one of my tablets (ext es card for example).

So I decided this morning to do a factory reset of the A10, not least to save me the bother of having to delete the selection of audio folders in Vidon, of which there are a good number. I could just 'add files' after solving the samba/connection issues.

Since the factory reset, I can start the A10 (it says hello in the little window), but there's no picture on the telly. I tried removing the mains cable for an hour, without effect.  Since nothing has changed otherwise regarding cables or anything since before the reset and now, I don't know what's happened.

Is there a quick way round this?

Appreciate any feedback. I'll get back probably to the computer-A10 connection problems when the picture issue is solved.

Cheers,
Chris

I did a little search for "forced recovery" here on the forum, and somebody suggesred cycling through the resolution settings using the remote, and hey presto, the picture has returned!

Well, that's a relief.

The next part is getting the smb connection up and running.  I'm getting "time out" about anhundredth of a second after clicking on "Workgroup".  It amazes me thar it shouldnbe so complicated.

Try setting up the share with a fixed IP and entering IP address manually.

Thanks for the advice. Not quite sure how I go about finding a fixed IP. This is the sort of thing that gets me stumped every time. I'll go some googling about it. I'm just trying out entering new network location, but I have copious folders to connect to, and don't fancy having to do this manually for each of them.

half a success - at least I've got a connection to the videos on the 'server' - a grand name for my common and garden computer - but that's on the main video page of the A11, not via Vidon. Incredible that this remains a problem the program developers still haven't been able to sort out. After all, how many computers running Windows 10 and storing music files can't there be out there? And it's been going on for donkey's years too.

The problem has been caused by Windows changing how Samba works across successive OS generations without building in backwards compatibility.

Admittedly, Egreat (and HiSilicon) should/could have updated Samba version, but there are many products with problems due to the (largely unpublicised) Windows changes.
