A11 won't boot
« on: April 16, 2018, 02:39:40 PM »
I just got my Egreat a11 three days ago. But now it won't boot and here is the detail about it.

When I received the machine, it start up well,I changed my resolution to 4K to fit my screen. Then I connected it to wifi. After the internet connection was obtained, I tried to connect to my NFS server and suddenly it frozen completely. I turned it off by the switch at the back of the machine. Then after I turn it back on, it won't boot. The TV shows no input signal found.
So I tried to force upgrade the F/W to bring it back. I followed the step listed in the manual but failed. Here are the current status:

1. When turned on, the LED screen will show HELLO and EGREAT, then it will show two small dash bar moving from left to right. If I press OK button on the remote, it will show current time. I guess that means it still be able to connect to my wifi, which means the force f/w update might didn't work since it still stored my wifi name and password.

2. I tried different firmware version(both release and beta), 4 different Udisk(2G to 16G). It always goes into the same condition as I motioned above. Seems it is always failed to flash the ROM.

3. When I tried to force upgrade. after connect the Udisk, press RST and start the machine. I saw the small led on the face plate blink and the LED on Udisk also blink, I guess that means It is trying to flash the ROM, but the screen just pompt nothing and after a while it still goes to the status (1) mentioned above.

What should I do now? How can I get it back to life? Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

If it is showing current time when pressing OK button on remote then the A11 is running normally behind the scenes.

It might be set to a resolution / refresh rate combo that your TV doesn't support. Do you have a resolution display at the left of the LCD? It might say 4K, 1080p, 720p? Try cycling through HDMI output resolutions. Press 'Resolution' button on remote, wait a few seconds. Then press it again and repeat until you get an image on your TV. The resolution button cycles through available HDMI output modes, there are 14 of them.

I agree with your opinion, I also think it might work good but I just messed up the display settings. So actually the force upgrade won't reset all the user settings?

It is good to know you can cycle through the resolution and refresh rate. I don't even know you can do that on your remote. I didn't get that information from the manual or maybe I just miss it. I remember the LED display says 1080P. which is the resolution definitely support by my projector. But I think maybe the refresh rate do the trick. I will try it when I go back home today.

Thanks for the fast reply.

@futeko.com

I tried cycle through all of the resolutions. The LED shows 480p, 720p, 1080p and 4k. I cycled it twice to make sure I go through all the options. But none of them work. My TV and projector all showed no signal.

What is the next step I can take?

Thanks,

It's possible the forced update didn't work. Without an image via HDMI the only difference between a failed forced update and a factory reset (this would happen if update file was not recognised) is the flashing of an activity LED inside the USB flash drive.

The USB flash drive should be 8GB or smaller and you should use one of the USB 2.0 ports on the A11. Use firmware 1.2.5.6: http://data.egreatworld.com/A11BD_EN_Firmware_20170930_v1.2.5.6.rar

After the USB drive has been prepared you should have the following files:

If that doesn't work also try USB 3.0 port.

I tried the way you mentioned. I got a 2GB memory stick. Fresh format to fat32. Copy the 4 force upgrade files to it and follow the force upgrade step. There is a LED on the memory stick so I can tell it is read by the machine. I will always hold another 15-20 sec after the led on the memory stick blink. I can tell when the flash process finished. The a11 will restart. And the result is the same. The machine can still boot up and connect to my wifi. I am really frustrated. I also tried the usb3. 0, the result is the same. I tried both 1.2.5.6 and 1.2.6.6 f/w. Even tried another way mentioned in a a10 topic use the newest beta start up file but with the 1.2.6.6 update file. It still remain the same. I don't know what is wrong withtbe process. I tried all the usb port and 2 different memory sticks. It always give me the same result. Is there any other thing I can try or did I miss anything? I can try to make a video show how I do the force upgrade if that helps.

Thanks.

It sounds like you have done the forced update correctly.

I will discuss it directly with Egreat tomorrow morning, see if they have any additional suggestions. But if not then, presuming you purchased the A11 from us, email us for warranty RMA. mail@futeko.com

That makes a good point. But I did connect to the main HDMI out. Actually I also tried connect both the main HDMI and the audio HDMI, but I didn't heard any sound. I want to verify if the main HDMI port just gone bad. But since it is no sound at all then I was really confused. But still thank you.

If RMA is the only way I would do it anyway. I just got it from you guys and I don't even saw a film through it and it need to be RMAed. That is really sad. Hopefully Egreat can figure out some way to bring it back. I was impressed by the building quality, it is very good. But it make it feel even worse to have this kind of issue.

Try do recovery FW with this update.zip using USB 2.0(white port) from back side of player. When recovery FW will succeed player will like first lot left from factory,  FW v1.2.5.1.

Note: all data will be erase included WiFi connection.

@futeko.com

Found the problem! ;D The two HDMI connection gonna bad.

In case other people may have the same problem and want to figure out the problem,

USE THE COMPOSITE VIDEO OUTPUT!!

After connect my TV with composite video, use the remote to change resolution to 480p. The TV finally shows content. The box itself works pretty good. But both the main HDMI and audio HDMI don't function.

I will set a RMA for replacement.
