I actually just gave this a go as it was from the HiMedia site...

It's an improvement but there are still issues with it... Pass through in Kodi is a lot better but there is still issues with the DTS pass through audio not sounding quite right.. There are audio sync issues in the Himedia player..

I haven't spent too much time on it but I can see why Futeko haven't released it yet.. Looks like a work in progress..

Yes, all the bugs are still there.
The only good thing (for me) - added NFS in media center and is working with my synology

Good firmware. WMV Playback in KODI works with it now! So seems it was not a KODI bug. Nice

Not bad at all. Kodi DTS now functions, no DTS HD though, yet. Also DTS HD no longer is available via Media Player. Overall, A good work, in progress...

That firmware was not meant for public release!, so a bit of a mix-up from Himedia.

Glad people see that it's an improvement. When we get the final release it will show further improvement..

1. 24fps or 23.976fps movies are played stuttering with Kodi with v1.0.6 also.

The internal MediaPlayer plays correctly with 24p.
The infoscreen of my TV shows this.
Kodi plays these movies with 30 or 50 or 60fps, dependent
what the TV is set to. The internal player seems to override the
TV settings. I tried the common Kodi settings to influence this
(Synchronize framerate with TV etc.), but it has no effect.

So a MediaPlayer-wrapper for Kodi would be fine!

2. playing DVD-ISOs gives an error when played with internal MediaPlayer.

It's worth noting that the version of Kodi that the new Firmware installs appears to be some sort of custom HiMedia version.. Make sure you uninstall whatever version of Kodi you installed with the old Firmware first.!

From the look of it HiMedia appear to be going down the route of doing way with the external player and adapting the internal one.

There is an option for Dolby TrueHD audio and if you play a 3D iso it gives you the option to play in 3D (Although it doesn't work at present and plays in side by side mode). There are also various hardware acceleration options that are specific to the chipset in the H8.. Hopefully it's a good sign of things to come..

I've also just tried out a movie with TrueHD Audio and I have to say that it works pretty dam well within the Kodi interface... DTS not so good...

It's not an official firmware release and stuff is broken.

Try it by all means, it won't do any harm, but it's not intended to be fully functional.

Ok, 1.0.6 is broken but still on Himedia download center.
Strange.
ETA for nonbroken firmware?
