Kodi backup
« on: February 02, 2018, 07:14:52 PM »
I am having more problems with the Kodi library backup app. Current version 1.1.2 was running on Q10 V2.4 with Kodi 17.1. I started having problems with Kodi after using the picture option to review photos in my very large photo library. I was doing this because my 4K tv is better than my 21" HD PC monitor. I suspect Kodi was having memory problem because my photo library is very large and it kept crashing with odd errors.
I tried a clean up from Android which meant Kodi restarted from scratch and I got some semblance of normal operation. In case of future problams I did a library backup to an SD card then did a factory reset anf attempted to restore my backup. The restore hung for ages before crashing. I am using UUID identification of 3 external USB drives to locate my media. I attempted to restore an earlier backup from a week ago, and again it hung with no operation.
I have now upgraded to Q10 2.7 and Kodi 17.6 and have little confidence in the backup app which has been unreliable ever since 1.06 started to bomb out with backup error messages. It seems to load a myriad of different runtime libraries each of which affects the final program.
Does anyone know if there is another Kodi backup app not necessarily in the official Kodi repository that has a bit better reliability? Or does anyone have enough confidence in the official app to use it?

For back up of Kodi install the Ares wizard zip.on to your file manager and the addon to your Kodi. The back function is exceptional  with added bonus that when you kodi upgrade, it automatically installs Ares for you, so back up can be downloaded near enough instantly. I have seperarate Ares folder on usb , and Ares even gives you dates on the back ups you create.

Install and  muck around the options , its a great tool for kodi

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure about using the Ares wizard. Some aspects of the project has undergone legal problems so I'm wondering whether support will continue for future Kodi versions.
I now have the latest Q10 version and Kodi 17.6 and have run a backup with version 1.1.2. I've done a restore from it and it seems to have worked ok so I'll stick with that for now.
