HiMedia Q10 Pro vs HiMedia B900
« on: January 19, 2018, 01:28:39 PM »
I own both of these HiMedia Players. The B900 plays everything (except 4K of course). I'm posting this due to the complaints re subtitles. My B 900 plays subtitles from every source, be it Bluray or recorded TV programs with .TS extensions. I don't have to do anything except play the  videos.
The Q10 Pro plays subtitles embedded in BluRay discs with no problem, but it will not play subtitles in those recorded .ts files. I am therefore back to using the B 900. I have been advised previously on this forum to install VLC Player, as that will play these .ts subtitles: It does, but it also takes half an hour in archiving the contents of my external usb drive, every time I try to use it, leaving me with a screen literally full of hundreds of screenshots of the content of the drive. Useless.
Another major setback with the Q10 Pro, compared to the B900, is that it will not play back a BluRay folder copy, whereas the B 900 does. Once shown where the folder is, it treats it as if it was a Bluray disc, and plays the movie with the opening screen and options !    The Q10 Pro does not !  It makes me navigate down to the  BDMV/ Stream folder where I have to click on the m2ts files to play the content. I only upgraded to the Q10 Pro for the 4 K upgrade. Now that I have the excellent  SONY - 4K ULTRA HD BLU-RAY PLAYER - UBP-X800, I really don't see the point of the Q10 Pro. My advice is to find a B900 if you want to play subtitles and be able to auto play back a BluRay folder as if it was the actual disc.
The B 900 has been trouble free except for a failed PSU.
One last thing. To safely shut down the B 900, you simply press the power off button on the remote. You receive a warning to wait whilst the unit shuts down safely. What could be simpler ? With the Q10 Pro you have to go through several layers of the menus to arrive at a similar solution. Progress ?  I think not. I have spent many, many hours trying to sort this mess out, to no avail. All the Q10 Pro has over the B900 is that 4K ability. The two units even look identical. Not a happy customer
