Retain Kodi configuration during FW upgrade

Is there any way to retain the Kodi configuration when upgrading the FW? Not only do I have to reconfigure all Kodi users and my media shares after a FW upgrade, but I also lose the statistics on viewed movies etc. Is there a way to backup the Kodi configuration prior to upgrade and then restore it back after FW upgrade?

Yes. There is a Backup app in the Kodi repository. Make sure you backup to the hard disk NOT the SD card!

Thanks. Unfortunately, my Q5 Pro doesn't have an HDD - is it absolutely required or could I do a backup to USB stick that I then insert back after FW upgrade and restore Kodi config from?

Yes, that would work.

I think what maelor means is don't back Kodi up to internal flash (often presented as 'SD Card' in Android apps). This would get wiped during the update.

Whist the recommended upgrade is always a full install using the "pin method", I find incremental upgrades (such as from 2.0.5 to 2.0.6) are handled well by simply going to "Settings/Upgrade/Local" from a USB flash drive (FAT32) as this keeps all the settings on the box 
Always back up Kodi first, however.  The add-on works fine backing up to a plug-in SD card or USB drive.

I did a backup of Kodi using the backup add on in Kodi...however everything seemed to be in place after the upgrade with Kodi so I didn't need to do anything.

A wise man said once that is better to be safe than sorry. Make a backup from time to time just to be sure. To speed up restore activate packing (into a zip file), there is an option for that.

Yes.  No settings were changed, including Kodi 
I did have to reinstall "0" stop key patch.  Blu-ray menu stayed app on as well.
