New Q10 Pro to arrive soon. And Now?
« on: December 16, 2017, 09:34:56 AM »
Hi everybody! Im a new user from The Netherlands. My box is due to arrive today.

I will hook it up to my TV and YAMAHA receiver ofcourse, but then what?

I mean, should I Leave it at the firmware it comes with, of let it update to whatever the box finds over the air? (Ill be using a wired connection)
My intention is just to use it as a streaming device. No Kodi necessary. I want to watch BluRay ISO and mainly MKV files.
Most of which with HD Audio, since that is what I like.

I'm not into experimenting. I want something stable that works.
My previous box was a Xtreamer Prodigy, but firmwares are a total rubbish and no longer developed.

Who would be so kind to give me some idea?

Thanks in advance.

It's always suggested to keep your device uptaded.

The last firmware is the 2.0.6 running Android 7.0, but you won't find it online. You have to download it and put it into an usb stick.  Take a look at this topic: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=711.0 and follow the instructions.

After this, there are some useful patchs to improve the experience of this box , like the BD-ISO Menu Patch that allows you to play menu of BR-Discs: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2291.0

Auto frequency switching (24p mode) isn't working when video is started from the full BD menu, so you rather want still play BD isos without the BD menu patch.

Thanks for the replies!

Meanwhile the box arrived and I hooked it up. No problems there. it found new firmware OTA and installed.
Then I installed a 3Gb Hard Disk and 2 USB drives.

I have tried several files and the picture quality is better than I had before.
Didn't try the BlyRay ISO files. Will do later. 24 bit music files to my external DAC is also working fine.

Tried connection from a laptop and it puts around 30 MB/sec through to the Q10 on WiFi. Fast enough for HD video with DTS Master Audio and hires sound. The ASUS AC3200 comes in handy here.

So far, Im happy.

I hope your internal Hard drive is 3Tb and not 3Gb??

The built-in player "Media Center" works very well with what you want to do.
I'd also suggest reading through the FAQ thread on this forum.  It has lots of tips and hints.
The patch to use the "0" key on the remote as a "stop" button is very useful and worth installing (from a networked PC).

While you say you are not worried about Kodi, I find it's library function is excellent for movies, tv and music.
It really keeps track of all your files across multiple devices and directories, including internal Hard Drive, USB hard drives and network drives.
As long as the "wrapper" is installed correctly, you use Kodi as a library and play switches automatically to the in-built player (and then back again when the video stops) to overcome all Kodi's current shortcomings with HD audio etc.

I'd also recommend updating Kodi to the latest "stable" 17.6 version and trying it out.  If you have not used it before, check out the Kodi website for detailed instructions on selecting sources for libraries and use of metadata "scrapers" which give movie, music and TV episode covers and information.

Enjoy your new Q10Pro.  :)

3 TB Hard Drive yes! Thanks Phil for your reply.

I'll try the '0' key patch. I already installed the faster network patch. Cant find any major difference, but like I said, 30+ MB/sec is good enough for streaming in the house.

I also read about the auto framerate, but that's still pretty inclear to me. I'll get into it.

Edit:

Framerate patch installed and seems to work fine.

What doesn't work fine however, is the youtube app. It starts with lowest videoquality and most of the times I have to manually tell it to use HQ. It doesn';t take the highest quality automatically. Is this a bug?

On my PC I made sure the video has e.g. 1080P available, whereas the app plays it only in 480P and doesn;t even indicate the 1080P is there.
The Q10 is connected to the router by UTP cable and the line is a 300Mbit line.

Can i perhaps update the youtube app? Or is there anything else I can do?

That is how Android Youtube is supposed to work, resolution will increase to system max as video buffer fills up.

It's not a big issue for me personally and I only ever get a few seconds of lower res video before it ratchets up to 1080p. If you get more than this then yes I recommend updating the Youtube app using Play Store.

The issue is that it doesn't scale up to 1080 automatically.
I have to do it every time. That gets annoying to be honest.

Can I simply go to the store and download the YouTube app I find there?

I recommend using Play Store to download latest Youtube.

Or, not so much recommended, here: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/youtube/youtube-12-47-58-release/youtube-12-47-58-17-android-apk-download/

Today I forgot the principle: Don't fix it if it aint broken.

Well, I changed to firmware 2.0.6. That was the only change.

My speed to and from the Q10 has dropped from 30+ Mb/sec to around 9 Mb/sec
At 2.0.5 it worked much faster.
I reset the box, installed again the samba patch, but no result.
Under 2.0.6 it is 3 times slower than before.

Is there a way to go back to 2.0.5???

And then I promise not to mess the firmware up again when it works without a problem. ;-)

Samba speed should be the same 2.0.5 / 2.0.6.

You can go back to 2.0.5 by installing 2.0.5 using the normal restore button method as described in our firmware threads.

Thank you very much for your reply! It;s wonderful to be in this active community.

Just to try I did another reset on 2.0.6 and restarted router, Q10 and laptop. This morning I did another test and yes! I'm back to original speed.
I picked up a file on the Q10 and it went with 42Mb/sec to my laptop on th eupper floor. I'm happy there!
Wonderful.

The only problem I have still left is YouTube. It picks up a file from a channel and shows only 480p On My Samsung TV native app it is 1080p. On my Apple TV it is 1080p. Everywehere else in the world this video is 1080p. The Q10 doesn;t even show me there is anything else above 480p available.

AppleTV and Samsung TV als well as Q10 are connected by UTP cable to my router.

Why doesnt the Q10 youtube show me HD like any other device does?

(yes, I know I can download another version from playsdtore, but that doesnt work well with the remote control. I dont use the keyboard)

IME the 2A power supply that comes from the unit will just be borderline when having an internal HD drive. Better buy a 12v 4A power supply.

What app do you use for your DAC? Is it thru USB? Plugging it mine to USB using UAPP as player running bitperfect.

This release comes in several variants. Consult our handy FAQ to see which download is right for you.
Requires Android TV

These require Android TV and can not be installed on your phone or tablet.

I don't dare using it now.
