Which Should I Buy?
« on: September 14, 2015, 09:09:37 AM »
I am trying to figure out which is the best box for my needs, I have been comparing the Q5, Q10, H8, ad cant see how the difference/price difference stacks up?

Anyone help here?

I have a 65" 4K TV.  I have an Android Media player on it already but I would like one capable of utilizing 4k, should the content become available.  Use of the device is basically 100% down to Kodi to stream TV and Movies via **.

Thanks.

Q5/Q10/M3 have well developed firmware where nearly everything works well now. They'll play virtually any file and cope with 7.1 audio, 3D etc. They also have more ports and a front LCD.

H8 has less generous ports and is very new so has less developed firmware. Some stuff doesn't work perfectly yet (e.g. HD-Audio in Kodi). However H8 is much more powerful (close to twice) and will receive the usual Himedia firmware updates so everything will get fixed and made good in time. It's also cheaper. And it supports 4K60 vs 4K30 for Q5/Q10.

Subjectively, Q5/Q10/M3 has better picture quality and this will probably always be the case. The Hisilicon chipsets are better for image quality than Rockchip.

Have bought also this Himedia and using mostly Kodi incl. all possibilities ;) Personally I think it's up to Himedia and of course development of kodi, android based, if this box will be
interesting for the future. Hopefully it will be...
I am heavy Kodi user and there are of course limits...........nothing is perfect. There are many competitors launching RK 3368 boxes so I assume that the level of perfromance will increase during 2015 - 2016.

Sorry for bringing up **.  Realise that puts in a taboo subject.

Sounds like it is not as simple as 1 model is better than another...I would have thought the H8 with it being newer and Android 5 and more powerful, but perhaps a cheaper/slower chipset lets it down?  What is the difference between the Q5 and Q10?  I already have another device, which will be relegated to a smaller (non 4k) tv, and I had a previous device which lasted 6 months before the HDMI socket broke.  I just want the best device that will last the longest and watch (legally) accessible streams over a decent internet connection on a 4k tv.

H8 chipset is more powerful, Q5/Q10 are better for video format support and image quality.

Difference between Q5 and Q10 is mainly the internal 3.5" HDD bay in Q10. Plus other external port differences. Chipset and performance are the same.

We will continue selling Q5/Q10 as well as H8 into the foreseeable future.

Thank you for the information.

Sounds like the Q5 is the one as I am not concerned about the internal HDD.  I prefer to use network storage as I have multiple TVs and media players on the network.  The only ports I require are a USB for my air mouse, HDMI, LAN, and an SD slot.  Video quality and 4k are most important...60fps is not important.

Cheers.
