Lip-sync audio slip issue. +(A pair of other bugs).
« on: December 09, 2017, 06:35:37 AM »
Hello!

So after I have updated from OFW 1.0.9 to OFW 2.0.6 i have found the following issues:

1. Most important: there's an audio slip in the videos (tried 23.976fps, x.264, DTS), mostly noticeable when comparing the speech to the lip movement i.e. in dialogues. The audio "comes earlier" about 200-500ms than the video. I'm using the HiMedia Player -off-course- for playback and the analogue RCA outputs with active speakers. So the error is surely not in my equipment or setup (other than the Q10 Pro). No such problem occurred with 1.0.9.  Very annoying.  >:( :(

2. It seams that the aspect ratio setting gets resetted back to "Keep Original" sometimes after a fresh reboot. I'm almost always prefer the "Full screen" setting, so it's very un inconvenient too...

3. And the "oldest" and "oddest" bug ever: no matter what resolution picture I set as background (while viewing the picture and setting it as Wallpaper), it always get stretched and zoomed in some kind of very odd way, making the GUI look unaesthetic (ok, it's simply ugly). I guess this bug is around since the beginning of the Android 7 firmwares, and it's still here even with the latest sixth update?

Maybe the 2. and the 3. "bug" wouldn't make much to me otherwise, but the audio slip issue is surely irritating and I ask for revision and solution regarding!

Thank you!

1. I'd like more reports of this. If such a problem existed it would be a major one, but I've seen no other reports from the thousands of other users.

2. Noted. It will be passed to Himedia.

3. Yes, it's ugly. The CS custom firmwares have good wallpaper options.

Wallpaper scale is Android design problems, try Full size Wallpaper with Fit vertical to apply yours favorite backgrounds.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vnsoft.fulllivewallpaper

BTW is not perfect application select Fit vertical every time before to press apply buttons to ensure is use it.

Maybe not a lot of users use the Box with the analogue RCA outputs here, but I do, and I'm sure having this issue. Tested both with CFW and OFW 2.0.6, right after a fresh install, and the lip-sync audio slip is there. I have this both with DTS-X/MA with core DTS and with pure DTS 5.1 audio tracks. It seems something is missing from the synchronization during the decoding and downlsampling... And the slip always stays constant during the entire video, if it's 500ms than it will be 500ms till the end.

I don't have e budget yet to a fancy AVR+Speaker system, neither room in my room to apply. And I have bought the Q10 Pro (yes, from you Futeko) in mind to have an option to use a pair of active stereo speaker, simply connected right to the Box RCA outs.

It might be dependent on the type of the audio track, cause I have tested with SD video that has AC3 2.0 track and there was no slip at all.

But most of the material I watch have DTS 5.1 or DTS-(HD)MA, with core DTS and all the videos with these tracks I have tested so far have this audio slip issue with Himedia Player.

But why don't you check it by yourself? Just concentrate on the lip movement during a longer dialogue and sure you will find unnatural and strange.

Thank you!

Hello,
I am on 2.0.6 CFW, playing movies from internal HDD...
When on playing via HDMI on TV and listening to tv's speaker sound, rarely, a barely visible lipsync issue, image delay vs sound, very tiny, not really disturbing.
When i channel sound through technics audio line through RCA audio out, I have SIGNIFICANT lipsync issue, visible and disturbing, IMAGE IS LATE, and sound is FASTER than image, probably because of decoding lag in the Panasonic 4kHDR tv. Any ideas?
A good idea for Himedia would be to introduce adjustable +/- time for audio vs image, and viceversa.
Cheers to everyone.

(Later Edit) - I revisited the issue, very attentively, and the lip sync isssue is present in ALL playbacks. Smaller on HDMI/4kUHD tv, but visible nonetheless. I wonder why I did not see it in the first place. On internal RCA audio-out is worse, a lot worse, making movies almost/almost not watcheable.
IF THIS IS IS NOT CORRECTED, I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING REPLACING THE HIMEDIA WITH ANOTHER BRAND. I start watching reviews on XBOX One X, project Scorpio.

Did you reported the lip-sync issue to Himedia, Futeko?

I don't want to draw back on the 1.0.9 firmware, just to get this one correctly working. And hoping -and expecting- that Himedia will take that acknowledged, investigate it and fix it in the upcoming firmware.

Thank you!

I have just tested it with a DD (AC 3) 5.1 source and it has even worst audio slip (like 1 sec) than the DTS track videos.

I don't want to seem inpatient, but could you please at last give me the feedback i'm asked for?

(The support seams to get here generally deserted a while ago, and it just begins to reflect negatively regarding the true facts of the previously "so famous" costumer-orientation...)

Yes.

Most issues have been debated to death already and there are fewer posts generally.

I can also vouch for this. I experience this problem as well.

It's sure that even videos with AAC 2.0 audio track are affected.

When we can expect a new firmware -with an according fix- to be released?

Of course, I ask Futeko to submit the bug to Himedia - as reported by few users this was not an issue with 2.0.4 and prior for example.

Something has also definitely changed in the way that DD and DTS decoding is handled (and possibly with other formats as well) since a couple of firmwares ago. I can't tell from which exact version, but after I have updated from the -audio wise- perfectly fine 1.0.9 to 2.0.6, It has begun to have a constant audio slip issue (300-800ms) on the analogue outputs with any kind of videos. Other members also confirmed the issue. Could be caused by something completely different reason, but maybe these are related?

Off topic - obviously a completely different problem.

I've moved your post to your existing topic on this subject.
