I copied a bunch of files and deleted some, now I have about 100GB of files  on my 512GB HDD, but still it gives me an error message claiming disk is too full .... it's as if it disregards the files i deleted.... any ideas ? I am stuck

I've also experienced that issue with my internal hard drive. Connect it to a PC and run a check disk, it will free the space you are missing. It seems when files are deleted that information isn't properly written into the file system.
