Did you used the restore button method to upgrade the firmware? Which firmware version do you currently have?
What happens if try to play a local file with Kodi, does Himedia player open?

Presuming you upgraded firmware successfully to 2.0.4 or later then I recommend doing a clean reinstall of firmware 2.0.6 using restore button method as described in our 2.0.6 firmware threads. This will give you a clean updated system with working Kodi+wrapper.

A factory reset is never a good idea on Q5/Q10 Pro because you lose some system apps installed at first boot.

If you updated to a firmware earlier than 2.0.4 then reply with the firmware version you're on and I can advise further on how to get clean 2.0.6 installed.

I have a similar problem.

My videos are in shared folders on a Windows 10 computer. It is wired to the same home network as my Q10 Pro. On firmware 1.08, Kodi opens my shared folders via SMB Wrapper plays what I choose. All movies play just fine. Neither Kodi nor Wrapper ever asked me for a Samba username and password. Then I upgraded to firmware 2.06.

Update was successful, so I set Kodi up in exactly the same way. Kodi did not ask for any password when I added my SMB shared folders but Wrapper won't play my videos. It just keeps asking for my Samba username and password, which cannot be left blank. I tried "guest" as the username with a blank password. Won't work. I tried "guest" as both the username and password. Won't work too. The only way my videos will play is if I set Wrapper to play via Kodi, but no HD audio on the Q10 Pro. I need Wrapper for that.

I never had this happen before, so I am stumped. Could someone please help?

Quite a different problem, but I think the solution is easy and in the FAQ:

* Password protected Samba shares Kodi+wrapper? Go My Apps - Wrapper and enter your Samba details.

Please update to 2.03, then 2.04 and finally to 2.06 always with the restore button method.  I suggest you turn the box off and on (and let it boot)  at least once between updates just to play it safe. Upgrade Kodi to 17.5.1 and test some video add-ons from the Kodi repository BEFORE adding other addons from other sources.

Thanks for the info.

I can summarize my situation with these 3:
  • On Firmware 1.08, both Kodi and Wrapper play my videos just fine over Samba. I was never asked to enter any username or password at any time.
  • On Firmware 2.06, if I set Wrapper to play via Kodi, my videos play just fine over Samba. Kodi itself never asked for any username nor password.
  • On Firmware 2.06, if i use Wrapper to play videos instead of Kodi, nothing plays.

Since Kodi did not ask for my Samba details, what do I enter in Wrapper?

Is the Samba share password protected? In which case enter Samba username and password in wrapper settings. My Apps - wrapper.

If the share is not password protected, can you play video using Samba using HiMedia mediaplayer (media center from home screen)?

Sadly, no. Even if all my SMB shares are not password-protected, Himedia Media Center cannot play my videos. It can't even access the share in the first place.

When I try to create a share, I enter the IP address of my computer in "SERVER IP" and the name of the folder in "DIRECTORY." Since my samba shares are NOT password protected, I left ACCOUNT and PASSWORD fields blank. Then I entered "A"(just the letter A) in ShortCutName. After clicking on OK, an error message popped up saying "Account or password not corrent." (Spelled wrong)

Whatever I entered into the ACCOUNT and PASSWORD fields would not be accepted. Entering even the administrator name and password of my computer resulted in the same error message.

Here's the thing. If I set Wrapper to play via Kodi, all my videos play just fine. But of course, no HD surround sound. Which is why I need Wrapper to work.

What can I do to fix this?

Do you have "spaces" in your shared "parent" folders names? If so, try to rename one without any spaces and have another try. I have read it could cause such problems before...

As a matter of fact, I do. My samba shares have spaces in the folder names. For example, Movies 1, Movies 2, and so on. But all those shares are not password-protected.

And about passwords, Looun said it here, so I have followed his advice.

please note if you use KODI/SPMC to play files from SMB network, the SMB network should have NO User ID and Password.

On Firmware 2.06, Kodi can accessing my samba shares. If I set Wrapper to play using Kodi, Kodi plays those files right away. But if I set Kodi to play using Wrapper, nothing plays.

Just now I went Firmware 1.08. Guess what? Everything works. Kodi successfully plays my videos from Samba shares using Wrapper. Sadly, this is not the case in Firmware 2.06.

Is there a particular setting that I am missing?
