no , with Q5 you must use himediaplayervideo.
If you want 100% KOdi player must buy a rasberry pi or HTPC or H8.

Modified opening post to add download link for 3.0.1.1.

The only difference in the new firmware vs 3.0.1 is that it adds back the Miracast app and Miracast functionality.

Maybe a stupid question, but, I will ask anyways, how do I tell if I have a Chinese version of Q5?  I bought it from a proper brick and mortar store here in Canada, as opposed to buying from Internet site.

The Chinese hardware usually (though not always) has a different logo on the top. Like this:

The version we sell (European, world or whatever - we call it 'European') has the HIMEDIA logo in English.

Also, the Chinese firmware is very different. It is designed for Chinese streaming TV so is almost all in Chinese.. If the firmware boots to a simple multi coloured launcher (a bit Windows 8 like) then it's the European firmware and European hardware.

Thanks for the information.

I found a page on the device that gave the version Q5EN2000 so I figured that mean English.  I have downloaded and applied the new firmware, and it updated without error.
I am having the odd lockup with the new firmware, have to see if I can isolate how to reproduce it.

That number doesn't refer to Chinese / European hardware. Both versions can have that number.

Thanks, to me the EN part of that number would mean English.  I think I have seen a model number (if it is a model number) that was Q5CN2000.  Once I saw that it just made sense to me that the EN and CN represented the language or country.

I have had to reflash a couple of times to repair some corrupted or changes I made to settings that I could not quickly find out how to undo them.  This whole thing is a learning experience to me.  It does not help that I am one of those that will refuse to read instructions until I absolutely have to.  I just find that being that way helps me understand stuff faster.

To finally answer your question though, it does seem to be working good now.  It occasionally takes a very long time to produce a list of movies in some addons, and will appear to be locked up.  I have found that performing an ALT/TAB keystroke combination shows what apps are running.  If that works, it is not locked up, it is just busy.  This appears to be only on the first attempt to view a listing though.

The only difference in the new firmware vs 3.0.1 is that it adds back the Miracast app and Miracast functionality.

I have updated my 1.0.8 firmware with the 3.0.1.1 provided in your link: now I read "3.0.1" (not 3.0.1.1) as the onboard fw version installed. Is this ok? Thx

me too, says 3.01. Also i don't have the new media center layout (maybe because i tried first the local upgrade without reset, and after i found that kodi didn't worked, made a reset and upgrade with recomended method. Also i saw that in sbs 3d movies, 3d subs (not srt subs) stay always on, (i see the last subtitle even there is no dialog and it change only with the new one), has anybody else notice this? I find also that if you put in the root of internal flash a text file called xbmc_env.properties and inside this file write the default location for your kodi settings that points to an external drive that you had copied the "kodi_data" folder, (mine has this line: xbmc.data=/mnt/sda/sda3/kodi_data), then you don't need backup, all your settings and addons are working ok
PS Can someone post a screenshot of the new start screen to make sure that i don't have the right one?

3.0.1 is correct for 3.0.1.1 firmware. 3.0.1.1 is just 3.0.1 with added Miracast. Himedia didn't update the version number internally.

Does this update fixes the 4K resolution problem?
When I want to have the resolution set to 3840 x 2160 30fps or 24fps, every movie(720p or 1080p) is played with delay betwen audio and video on stock video player, kodi is playing badly with frame drops and it freezes. For 4K movies the stock player is realy bad and Kodi is dead on this. >:(
