Internal HDD sometimes not recognized
« on: July 24, 2017, 11:50:49 PM »
Since the first firmware i have issues with my internal HDD, sometimes when Q10 Pro start it didn't see the internal disk.
I restart the system and then the disk is there. Sometimes i restart and is not.

Anyone has a similar problem?

Hi,
What type of hdd is it, mechanical or ssd? In case of mechanical can you hear it spin?

It's mechanical, and when is not shown i can't hear it spin. This happens both with last firmware and  previous ones.

It sounds like a flaky drive as this behaviour is not normal.
Is it a new HDD or previously used?  Have you fully tested the HDD itself with software on another machine?  Does the S.M.A.R.T. table show any errors?

Is the HDD fully inserted into the Q10 Pro SATA connector?

This has been the cause of similar 'HDD not detected' problems going back to the first use of this HDD tray design by Himedia in HD600B. The intermittent detection also suggests a marginal physical connection problem.

Yes, i checked that. It's fully inserted, is really strange because without touching anything sometimes work and sometimes not.

If you sometimes can't hear it spin either you have a poor power cable connection (or even a bad power supply) or the hard drive has a stuck motor intermitent problem. Try another hard drive if you can.

It could even be a PSU size problem. Some HDD have a very high peak at spin up (e.g. Seagate Ironwolf 6TB/8TB).  Use myself 12V 4A PSU's for that reason with all my media players.

Do an Internal HDD eject and next remove/re-insert the HDD. If the box boots that is a clear indication of PSU under-sizing.
