HDMI In
« on: July 11, 2017, 09:30:25 PM »
Hi,
the question I would like some help with is this:
does the x10 pass the HDMI in straight through or can you change the output from the original?
The reason I ask is because I have a Egreat A5 and I want to run it's output through a splitter and feed the 4K HDR Signal to a TV and use the x10
to feed a 1080p signal to a HDMI 1.4 AV receiver for audio only.
My understanding is that if you split an HDMI signal then it will default to the lowest spec so I could not have 4K HDR to the TV
because it would default to the capabilities of the HDMI version of the AV receiver ie 1.4.
It seems the only other solutions are Fury integral
+ linker or a new amp and I like my old Onkyo, it goes up to 11!

There are many types  of HDMI splitters. Some split Video and audio. Some duplicate Audio+ Video at a single resolution. Some can output 2 different resolutions. All of these can be HDMI 1.4 or HDMI 2.0 capable. So many choices but pricing goes up as the splitter gets smarter.

Yes  I am aware of the myriad of HDMI spitters, downscalers, etc out there, thought I could come at this from a different angle.
Basically I have a splitter but the source needs to see my TV and  whatever I connect  ie the X10 as 4K HDR HDCP 2.2 compliant and I think as the end point of that part of the chain, then I was hoping that my amp would see the X10 as a source.
Believe me, I have spent ages looking into a solution for my problem, even considered an Oppo 203 but apparently the HDMI in is a crock.
May just bite the bullet and buy a new AV RECEIVER.
in my 30'S life was MUCH MUCH  easier, 1 TV, 1VHS, 1 SCART lead, 1 bottle of beer.

Many Thanks MR Nice Monkey, I see MR ltworf  in the Egreat section is looking for something similar.

We live in hope

Going for 4K is anyway expensive probably better to swap the AMP then too. Most new movies are in DTS-X or Dolby Atmos, so the AMP is outdated on that front too.

I am waiting myself for the HDR10 ==> Dolby Vision migration which I feel is eminent. The new UHD BD's will be DV with backward compatibility for HDR10, which for sure will degrade the picture somehow. On the UHD BD standard the support of DV was defined as optional making HDR10 support mandatory. The main attractiveness for DV lies in the simplification of the mass-production chain I understood, next to being a superior standard. I am pretty sure the industry will go for simpler+better finally which makes my choice simple "DV needs to be supported on my new UHD/4K chain too".

Problem solved!!!

Have now purchased a Denon AVRX4300H

My setup is a bit complicated because I have a Sony surround sound headphone processor in the chain
so even if I bought the Zidoo X10 I would have had to add a switch like the Egreat H10 anyway.
Now I use zone 2 from the Denon into the Headphone processor.
I'm interested in the upcoming Ziddoo media players.

@ Nice Monkey
Dolby Vision? like I would be able to tell the difference. Dolby Atmos, bad enough with a 5.1 system in the lounge my Wife certainly wouldn't allow any more speakers in the room! Yours may be more forgiving.
