Slow Samba listing in Media Player in Q5Pro
« on: May 21, 2017, 02:01:01 PM »
Hi,

I noticed that in latest version (Q5Pro, 2.0.3, Android 7) SAMBA directory listing became very slow. I0m using integrated Media player. It was fine at least in version 2.0.0 (haven't tested 2.0.1). For example, if directory has 320 entries, it takes maybe 4-5 seconds to get the content. Network and server is fine as even my tablet get contents almost instantly over WiFi.
What could be the cause, bug?

I do not have that many directories and 4-5 seconds would not be slow for me. Check the network connectivity on Q5 Pro.

I've checked the network connectivity and it is fine. Also tried to reset network equipment. If it would be network/server issue other devices and Q5Pro with 2.0.0 FW would also have the symptoms, but they don't. So it must be something related to 2.0.3 FW...

I'm not sure what else I could try to test the issue.

2.0.0 firmware was in a pretty bad state, I have 2.0.1 at the moment. Try pcristi's 2.0.3 firmware or even 2.0.1.

I've done some further testing with other Firmware versions and here are the results:
- official 2.0.1, OK (instant listing of 318 entries, folders only)
- official 2.0.3, slow
- custom, pcristi 2.0.3, slow

Then I tried to list same samba share with ES Explorer on pcristi's 2.0.3 version - it worked just fine.

Based on these facts I can only see one conclusion -> there is something wrong with HiMedia player in 2.0.3 version that causes samba listing to be very slow. It's pure speculation but maybe player in 2.0.3 does some extra (unnecessary) queries for each individual entry and that causes that slowness.

Any confirmation of the problem?

If it is for any additional help, LAN LED is blinking fast during this 4-5 seconds slow listing.

OK, now I'm curious, what is happening since there is no reply  :o
- am I the only one with this problem?
- has anyone even tried this or not?
- is problem confirmed/reviewed/anything by futeko?

Please, it would help me a lot, since Himedia player is the best player as far as playback quality itself is concerned.

No Samba problems for myself either.  I use networked NAS regularly for video playback.
Network issues can be difficult to pinpoint.  Do you have a fixed IP for your Q5?

I use DHCP assignment with mapping to fixed IP. But anyway,  due to facts that only Media player in 2.0.3 has such problems and I have no other network issues whatsoever with any of the devices, I would say it's strongly unlikely that it's the network issue. Again, even ES Explorer shows the content immediately on the same device. If it would be network or configuration issue in general, that would not be the case.

When other have tested this, did you also had few hundreds (more than 300 in my case) entries in single folder? What was the server, OS? Mine is Windows 10 x64.

@Bostjan talking about new Media Center LAN application?
For me too New Media Center LAN open folder very slow, over 15 second if folder have more that ~300 items, but from WallPoster is much faster.

item = folder witch include movie files + artfun + poster + subtitles + nfo.

@pcristi. Yes, I'm talking about Media Center application directly from home screen. And inside then LAN option. For me it doesn't take 15, but 5 seconds - still way too slow. I'm not even sure what WallPoster is though...:)

I also have similar problem with NFS. All versions before 2.0.3  (Nougat and Marshmallow) were working fine.
But now with latest v2.0.3, it takes a very long time to search for the server (approx 45 secs).

But if I access through the shortcuts that I create, it works fast (1-2 secs), even if the directory has 50+ folders.

As I always used NFS with most of the firm wares from beginning, so I am 100% sure that this problem started only with 2.0.3.
So please look into this issue seriously. Thanks.

I've tried the issue with just released 2.0.4 firmware and the the problem is only partially fixed. In 2.0.3 listing was slow if folder contained 300+ items of any kind, subfolders or files. Now in 2.0.4 listing is fast if items are files, but still slow if items are subfolders.

Please fix also for subfolders....
