HiMedia Q10 Pro cannot see my server
« on: April 19, 2017, 03:58:05 AM »
I just received my Q10 Pro, and the first thing I have tried to do; is get it connected to my server, where all my media is, but it just wont see my network or server.
The Q10 is connected to the LAN with a ethernet cable, and I can access youtube, Chrome browser, etc, on the Q10 with no problems.
I have gone to the MediaCenter and LAN and tried to set SMB or a NFS connection, but no matter what I do it just cant see my media server. I have tried both "auto search" and manually inputting IP address etc.
There is a couple of other media players on the network, a Zappiti 4K HDR, and a old Dune, and both these have no problem seeing the network, or the server.
Before I send this back does anybody have any suggestions.
I have disabled my firewall and turned off wi-fi in the Q10 and this made no difference.
I really like the feel of this so far, it feels really responsive, and hopefully I can get this connected.
Android 5.1.1 and Firmware 1.09
When I go into my router (ASUS RT-AC88U) I can see the Q10 as one of the clients so it appears that the router can see it, but cant make a NFS or Samba connection.

If your router can see the Q10 Pro then the problem is either SMB setup or router firewall/MAC filtering.

Disable firewall on router, disable MAC filtering, and assign a fixed IP address to the share.

You should be able to see the share by entering details manually in Media Center.

As a test, can you see the share in other Android apps like Kodi or ES File Explorer?

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply. YES the router can most definitely see the Q10 as one of the clients connected to it.
Both the server and the Q10 have a static ip adress, there is no firewall on the router, I have disabled Avast on the server, NO mac filtering, and I still cant get any Samba or NFS connection.
And file explorer cannot see anything either.
I havent tried Kodi yet as I wanted to make sure I had network connection first.
It really has me stumped as I have not had any problems connecting to any other media players.
If I go to my server and go to windows file explorer, I can see the Q10 there, and if I click on it, it asks me for Network credentials (user name and password.)
Bit of a mystery this thing. I think it may be going on ebay, its doin my head in.
Is it worthwhile to update the firmware, could this fix my problem.

Without knowing the cause of the problem I can't guarantee updating the firmware will fix it, but it is worth a shot. 1.0.9 is quite an old firmware now.

I am confused here though. Are you trying to access your NAS or some other network attached storage device or ar eyou trying to access the Q10 through SMB? Because trying to access the Q10 Pro through the windows file explorer is something entirely different from trying to access SMB shares on some network attached storage device from the Q10 Pro. Both are entirely different routes and can have entirely different problems.

If you are on the Q10 Pro, try using ES File Explorer, go to LAN and try to scan the network. If you still can't see any devices on the network you should make sure the Q10 Pro is in the same network/sub network as the devices you try to find.

Trying to access the SMB shares on the Q10 Pro requires you to enable the SMB Server process in the settings. You can have it password protected or have everybody that connects to your network, access the shares without credentials. But, this is not requireed to be able to see SMB enabled devices in your network.

Just to give you my experience with the 1.0.9 firmware:
With ES File Explorer I was able to scan and log into my NAS that has password protected SMB shares. I was able to play movies ffrom ES File Explorer and I was able to play videos from Kodi with the wrapper (with in essence means that both Kodi and the firmware itself were able to access the shares). So there must be something going wrong in terms of either discovery (SMB shared device might not be broadcasting it's capabilities) or credentials.

I have, since the 1.1.0 firmware came out hadn't had any problems with the SMB shares... I did change the versions the SMB server (Synology NAS) accepts. It defaulted to SMB1 whcih I have since then changed to SMB1 to SMB2 with Large MTU.

What kind of storage device are you trying to access from the Q10 Pro? Make and model would help a lot in trying to figure out what is going wrong.

I just wanted to come back and update this thread.
This problem was fixed by me updating the firmware on my ASUS  RT-AC88U router. I didnt do a reset, just updated the firmware.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Hi,
I have similar problem.
My Q10 Pro can find the network SMB share through ES File Explorer, but Kodi and Media Centre LAN couldn't.
I have tried auto search and manual input, none works.
Advice please ?

Thanks.

Allocate a fixed IP to the share and enter details manually.

If ES File Explorer on the Q10 Pro can see the share then there is nothing wrong with Q10 Pro hardware.
