Simple FTP app with autostart function?
« on: March 23, 2017, 09:38:24 AM »
Hello,

i'm looking for a simple FTP app for Q10 Pro.

Idea:
Configure it once, then have it auto start every time Q10 pro boots so i can transfer files most efficiently from/to my pc.

The last one i had installed was Primitive FTPd, but when i start it now... there is no button anywhere to configure it.
o_O

Any suggestions?

Free FTP server is working for me (Android 7 2.0.1 Firmware in Q10 Pro) and you can set in the settings to start on boot:

I was using Free FTP on mine until I set up a dedicated NAS. It worked pretty well and it is free.

I recently upgraded to Android 7 fw 2.0.3 (from fw 1.0.9), so I had to switch from Primitive FTPd to simple FTP. I have observed two issues:

- A minor problem is that when I enable the autoboot option in simple FTP, the server is started after a reboot, as expected, but the start screen of simple FTP appears covering all the screen and must be manually closed (Primitive FTPd was much more "discreet" in Android 5: it just started the FTP server in the background without any annoying "splash screen").

- A major problem is that when I access to my Q5 pro via FTP from my computer, I cannot access to the attached USB3 HDD: From the root directory I cannot see a /mnt subdir. Other subdirectories such as /Android or /DCIM, etc. are accessible, bit since I cannot see my USB HDD, I cannot transfer files. This did not happen with Primitive FTPd on Android 5.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Already figured out how to see the USB HDD. The problem was that simple FTP defect home directory is /storage/emulated/0 instead of root directory. This defect option needs to be reset in the app itself either to root or to /mnt//media_rw

The other minor problem persists. Anyone has been able to avoid the simpleFTP "splash screen" on reboot?

If you are running Android 7, I would also suggest trying Samba again.
It is much faster than Android 5.1 for file transfers and in my case rock solid for NAS and HDD (internal and attached USB) access from Windows 10 PC.

Thank you. I just tried Samba again and it is indeed much faster now than in Android 5. It worked very well for small files. However, when trying to copy medium or large files, Android 7 still prompts an "insufficient space available" message. Looks like Android 7 still is not well aware of the real capacity of attached USB HDDs (much like it happened in previous Android versions).

Thanks again,

Thanks again,
I move 40Tb (Blu-ray remux) files to and from Q10Pro using the network and have never experienced "insufficient space" error.  I really only do this from a Windows PC, however.  Not sure if you are trying from the internal File Manager or an Android app?

I get the problem only when trying to transfer a "large" file (> 1.5 GB) from my computer to the HDD attached to my q5pro via USB 3. It happens both in Windows 7 and MacOS X 10.11.6. For some reason Android "declares" to the PC it has only ~2 GB free space to save files. I wonder if this would have something to do with the  2GB RAM the android box has. Searching the forum, I have found an old thread about this:

http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=162.0

where a Windows 7 user gets this message also. Maybe Windows 10 can override the "insufficient space" warning...

However, the good news is that the problem appears only when transferring more than 1.5 GB from the computer to the HDD attached to the q5pro (not the other way around). The speed I get if I transfer really big amounts of data (30 GB or more) from the q5pro to the computer is simply spectacular: over 110 MB/s sustained!! (in the theoretical limits of my home gigabit network and more than double the speed I got using FTP).

I found here a newer thread about the same issue:

http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=757.0

Seems to be a known not fixed issue.

I move most of my files from a MacOS X machine to the q5pro (HDD attached). MacOS X file manager won't allow to copy files to a target with a (wrongly) reported "not enough space" so I am afraid I won't be able to use Samba for file transfer (a real pity, because the speed has really improved in Android 7). Will have to keep on using FTP.

Primitive FTPd. New firmware 2.04 Himedia Q10 pro does not display start / stop / config buttons. I can not start the program. Do you know any alternative progdam for Primitive FTPd with autostart?
I'm writing in English with little google help :)
