DVD and BD ISO playback
« on: March 03, 2017, 01:04:26 PM »
Hi,

I have just purchased a Q10 Pro and I think I like it except for disappointment with it's ISO playback functionality.  I have a large backup collection of DVD ISO images that all play fine on my Asus O!Play TV Pro with good picture quality and give me the DVD menu.  However, when played on the Q10 Pro media player I now have to decide whether to use Kodi's own built-in player or use the HiMedia wrapper.  The problem with Kodi's own player is that despite having the DVD menu, the playback is very jittery and much lower quality.   When using the wrapper I get great picture quality but no menu. I could perhaps live with this but the wrapper is not always able to play some of my DVD ISO images that play with Kodi's player albeit poorly, and just fine on the ASUS.

I know there have been posts about the Q10's ISO playing capability but is it known for certain if there is a pending firmware update to improve ISO playing?  I'm asking this as I need to determine if the Q10 is fit for my purpose.  I think it's a nicely built unit, and it certainly has good features, but for me, the ability to properly play ISO images is a must.  That said, my old Asus player does not handle 3D MKV files with subtitles, and some BD ISO's are not always played back smoothly, both of which are handled great by the Q10.  It seems I need both boxes, but this is not ideal, I was expecting the Q10 to replace the Asus.

Thanks.

Are still not Android box TV witch can replace dedicate player like Asus O!Play, HiMedia 900A/B, Egreat R200s/R6s, etc... to 1:1 functionality.
Egreat A5/A10 are more closer to this needs because full DVD/BD Menu support, 3D MVC on mkv container and better optimized PQ.
Anyway you need to accept what Android player can't do compere with 5-8 year old dedicate player, on benefit of new supported x265 /  UHD / HDR /etc.

BTW HiMedia announced will support DVD/BD menu in future firmware according RiCo97 on 4pda forum.

The Egreat A5 and A10, both based on the same Hisillicon chipset as Q10 Pro do DVD and BD menu's. Sorry to say but Himedia is moving too slow.

Need to test but Zidoo X9S claims to have DVD Menu support in the most recent FW fixed also. The old players (Eminent EM7385 is my own favourite  old one) did a better job here but never had Full BD Menu support either,  they just supported a Basic BD Menu without any need for JAVA processing.

Thanks for the replies.  If an update is coming that better supports DVD/BD ISO then I am happy to wait. If this is only a small chance then I am not so happy.  My Asus O!Play still works and maybe I have to settle using that for DVD ISO's hmmm.

I have just installed the workaround Kodi add in auto FMT switch 1.01 for Android 7 (http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1015.0) and playback is much better.  It's useable until the Q10 Pro better supports ISO playback.

Dear Futeko!

There's been a long time since we (users) have begin to try to request for the official fix for the DVD playback issues. After that many firmware updates with no resolution regarding, and before the next awaited release, I would like to refresh this expectation.

I  would like -at last- proper DVD frequency switching and deinterlacing for both DVD iso and Vob files and for any interlaced other format/containered videos as well (it includes also the auto detection of interlaced scan type videos, like for "1080i" or other "SDi" material) in HiMedia Player. Especially while there's no any other players, workarounds or solutions that can truly, practically and sufficiently solve this.

The installation of the HiMedia frequency switcher patch is rather a makeshift and semi professional solution, according it's unusual and strange working mechanism (sorry, I didn't meant to degrade the appreciated work of the authors of the patch, it's just my personal (and I guess objective enough) opinion, that includes a technically guarding and preserving attitude regarding my TV set's condition). I have already explained this under protest opinion in details, in one of my previous posts in the KODI auto switch patch Thread.

Please take my (guess not standalone) supposition and repeated request attentively and under serious consideration and communicate it towards HiMedia with the same sort of attitude and suggested expectation.

Thank you in advance!
