I am thinking now that it's a failed drive. I only bought it in Jan though so it seems highly unlikely. I think something has become corrupted somehow.
I'm copying everything off it.. then I'll try reformat and return it.
I'm on a mac and disk utility says it has problems when I try to run a check on it.
