New Q10 Pro can't see internal HDD
« on: February 25, 2017, 10:11:00 PM »
Hello. Apologies in advance, if this is a bit of a noob post. I've always ran a windows HTPC, and this is my first time with Android OS.

I just got my Q10 PRO delivered today, so it came pre-loaded with latest firmware and Kodi 17.

I read the FAQ and this link to install my new drive: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=932.0

Inserted the Seagate 3 TB HDD into the Q10 PRO and hooked up to my laptop via USB 3. Initialized and formatted GPT/NTFS with no issues. My PC can see the drive and read/write to it. But when I turn on the Q10 and go to "media center" I don't see the drive. I've formatted several times, with no luck.

Please help!

Small Update...

I tried an old drive I had from my HTPC and still no go.

I then connected my external USB bay via USB 3 and I can see and play files from both drives via the Q10 "media center".

I just can not see any drives when connected via the internal HDD bay. Obviously I don't want to continue using the device in this manner, because the main reason I bought the q10 was the internal bay!

Thanks in advance for any help...

:(

Make sure you are pushing the connector all the way. Do this while the device is turned off. If it still does not work, maybe you need to ask for RMA :(

Thanks. I'm pretty positive the drive is installed correctly, because I can r/w to it via USB 3 to my laptop. It just doesn't recognize it inside Android OS.

I have one inside my Q10 Pro. How is it formatted? How large is it? Mine is 1 TB, formatted as NTFS, if I am not mistaken. Check that, eventually reformat it.

It's a 3 TB Seagate Barracuda GPT/NTFS. I've formatted several times and also tried a smaller disk formatted with both GPT/MBR NTFS.

Can see and R/W to the drive whilst inside the Q10 enclosure via USB AB, it just isn't recognized by Android OS.

Well, I think it has to use MBR and be formatted it as NTFS. There are guys here using HDDs that large without issues. I do not have a drive that large to test.

Thanks for the help. I'll await the futeko admin and then RMA I guess.  Would love to get this working though!

You read the tutorial provided? Mine reads any HDD up to 8 TB (and probably bigger)

Yes, I did. I installed the drive using the steps in the FAQ.

And I'm a software engineer, so I'd like to think I have a pretty decent technical background. :)

The drive r/w is fine and I can play movies from it through Q10 via USB hub. I can r/w to it inside the Q10 enclosure too. It just doesn't pick the drive up (or any drive I've tried) in the Android OS.

I guess I can try reinstalling firmware, but I don't see why that would help...

You can try to delete all the partition. Make it all blank. See your Q10 Pro can detect it or not. I use this method to enable adoptable storage on internal HDD.

You need to disconnect the USB cable from your Laptop to enable HiMedia to read the internal HDD.
I am sure you have done this. But just in case....

Try plugging the Q10Pro into a PC using the USB 3.0 port at rear.
Does it come up as an external HDD?  You can then partition and format perfectly  :)
I have a 4Tb  in mine and I installed an 8Tb WD into my relative's Q10.  Partitioned and formatted both NTFS using my PC (while drives were inside the Q10).

Yes, that's exactly what I do. USB 3 A to B cable into the back of Q10. Format through my laptop and then remove/unplug the USB cable and boot Q10 up.

Since my last post I've also reinstalled latest firmware, manually cleaned and
reinitlaized the disk (and a 1 TB I had lying around) in DOS, and formatting through a third party application.

The only thing I can think of is trying a drive from a different manufacturer. Every drive I've tried is a Seagate. Don't really want to buy another drive though!

Really would like the admin to respond though...  just bought this thing this week.

You could also read my tutorial. http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=576.0

Don't format via USB but connect the drive straight via (E)SATA to a Windows PC instead. Next format it with GPT and NTFS  (or EXT4).  Works with any Seagate or WD drive of ANY size.

What is the difference as Windows will perfectly work with it using both methods? Minimal valid parameter differences cause Android not to see it.
