I tested 4 UHD movies this evening (only UHD full rip BDMV).





Everything works, nothing to report for now but it seems to me that the Blu-ray menu was more smooth with the FW 1.1.2.0, it is just my opinion.

Note:
As everyone knows, the inferno movie has an Atmos soundtracks problem, but the Atmos soundtracks of the smurfs 2 and La La Land works properly with the Egreat, i do not think the problem comes from the Egreat.

No problem with La La Land and Patriot Day and the HDR aspect ratio bug.

I made a comparison between versions 1080p and 2160p.

We see immediately the difference on my TV 65", sharpness, contrast, colors, everything is better with the UHD HDR.

The HDR makes a nice difference (my tv is not a real HDR like the new HDR TV), but we see the difference with and without the HDR, i blinked several times during the movie.

When we return to the 1080p, there is something missing and we want to return to the uhd version

Each user uses the box in a different way, and depending on your use of box and bugs still unresolved, you will be satisfied or not with the egreat A5/10.

For my part it meets my expectations, but....

- I do not use games or apk with the Egreat.

- I do not use subtitles.

- I only use artwork downloader with Vidon and the skin aeon nox available in kodi.

- 99% of my collection is in 1080p

I like their POSTER V2.0 but there are bugs that do not allow me to properly use it (Library path disappears for example), it is a shame.

Currently :

I use Vidon, and with my parameters (1080p60 / YcBcR 4.4.4 / 10Bit / HDR auto), I have no problem with the playback of my movies, no crash. no freeze, no stuttering...with my 1080p movies.


I have 4 UHD BD rips and i use the player Egreat (with the following parameters 2160p30 / YcBcR 4.4.4 / 10Bit / HDR auto, Vidon is not compatible with the uhd rips Menu) to enjoy the blu-ray menu.

I start the A10 on Vidon and I use the A10 to see my movies, nothing else.
The egreat has a long list of bugs, but with my use of the device i have the chance to enjoy it without having problems.

I will do tests with the following parameters :

YcBcR / RGB 4.4.4 / 10Bit / HDR AUTO / with UHD Demo/ UHD movies (BDMV) having a frequency below 30HZ

YcBcR 4.2.0 / 10Bit / HDR AUTO / with UHD Demo having a frequency above 30HZ

My receiver Onkyo 656 takes a few seconds to switch to the right frequency, It's almost instantaneous when I plug the Egreat directly to my Sony TV.

When they announced that UHD movies would be in 4.2.0 10Bit, many people were disappointed to see that they had chosen the lowest compression quality, many people would hope to have ycbcr 4.4.4 10Bit with the new UHD movies specs,

The reason must be the gain in storage space

The 2160p60 YcBcR 4.2.0 10Bit is only available above 30Hz.

Do not forget either you have to manually change the parameters if it is a 1080p or a 2160p, this is due to a limitation of android OS 5.1 if I remember correctly, you can
correct me in case of error on my part

In conclusion :

with the parameters that I give above, everything works properly

I also tried the RGB 4.4.4 10Bit instead of the YcBcR 4.4.4 10Bit and everything works properly.

If you respect the standard HDMI 2.0, there is no problem.

But if you use the wrong settings there is a return in 8Bit, I did it voluntarily.
for example if you use the following parameters : UHD60 / YcBcR 4.2.0 / 10Bit / with a video below 30HZ.

1st choice

You have a mix of 1080p and UHD movies in your videos collection and do not want to change the settings every 5 minutes of your UHD HDR TV.

On the advice of Arch30n ( on the forum homecinema.fr page 32), here are the parameters :

2160p30 / YCbCr 444 / 10Bit / HDR auto

With these parameters you will be able to see your films 1080p and UHD / UHD HDR without problems.

If you have videos with a frequency above 50Hz, you will need to change the settings ( 2160p60 / YcBcR 4.2.0 / 10Bit, but except for some UHD demos this should not be the case if I do not make mistake )

2nd choice

You do not have yet UHD movies, only 1080p movies, here are the parameters (it's your TV that will do the upscaling 4K) :

1080p60 / YCbCr 444 10 bits / HDR auto

These are my settings because my Sony TV has an excellent upscaling 4K and I do not watch UHD movies.

If you want to see demo UHD / UHD HDR occasionally,  you will need to change the settings:

YcBcR or RGB 4.4.4 / 10Bit / HDR AUTO / with UHD Demo/ UHD movies (BDMV) having a frequency below 30HZ

YcBcR 4.2.0 / 10Bit / HDR AUTO / with UHD Demo having a frequency above 50HZ

The quality of the upscaling is different according to the brands of TV, so you can try both choice and see what settings you prefer.

Is this player able to play a HDR movie on a non HDR display rendering simulated SDR colors? As far I know, only Dune HD players are able to simulate SDR mode with HDR movies by adjusting picture parameters automatically. It seems that viewer does not notice any difference with a real SDR version. Could you disable HDR mode and compare 2 versions of a movie (for example, Passengers), 4K HDR and Full HD SDR?

Honestly, both are excellent, for my part I use vidon, because I have a problem with the path of my folder on my nas and the new poster v2.0, but for now and to my knowledge I am the only one to have this problem.


I have no MKV 3D, I do not know if vidon play them correctly, i  will do a test today or tomorrow
