ATMOS doesn't work (solved ?)
« on: February 06, 2017, 09:41:15 PM »
Only to say Dolby Atmos doesn't work using wrapper.
HiFi receiver reads the audio stream as Dolby True HD.

It should definitely work. In main box settings audio options should be set to raw. Otherwise, it could be a cable or receiver setup problem.

HiFi receiver reads the audio stream as Dolby True HD.

I have a Dolby ATMOS capable Av receiver and it works perfectly using wrapper. Of course keep in mind it will only work through HDMI output, SPDIF output only works for 5.1 and NOT for 7.1 output.
SO you are either not using the HDMI output, or your HDMI cable is not qualified (HDMI 1.4 or better 2.0) or you have some settings problems in Q10 pro or your receiver. Also you have to set ro RAW or RAW 7.1 all the audio settings in the settings options of the Q10 pro.

1) I use the cable provided with the box.
2) Receiver is OK. Using a PC and mediaplayer Classic Home Cinema (LAV Audio Codec) my Denon shows Dolby Atmos.
3) Should the 3rd option be RAW or RAW7.1 ? I tried only the second one. I check RAW later when at home.

My Pioneer VSX 1131 AVR only outputs Dolby Atmos with Atmos Speaker Setup.

With 5.1 or 7.1 it decodes only the True HD B**

I have exactly the same AV receiver: Pioneer VSX-1131 and I do not have Dolby Atmos speakers, but that is not a must. I do have 7 speakers and a sub-woofer and my settings are set to 7.1 , and the Dolby Atmos works perfectly this way (I have tested it with many DOLBY ATMOS encoded files including 7.1 speaker setup files which gives you one sound per channel at a time for audio testing.

I have the AV receiver Honkyo TX-NR646 and atmos and dts-X work perfectly. this is the step:
1.  set  the AV receiver to 5.1.2 and not 7.1 audio.
because of  dolby atmos consists of 2 front speakers, 2 surround  speakers, 1 center, 1 subwoofer and 2 dolby atmos, which  should be placed up on  Ceiling   Wall.
2. set Himedia to audio RAW
3. set kodi to audio passthrough.

1) Atmos doesn't depend on receiver configuration, at least on my Denon.
3) Setting passthrough in kodi should be useless if using wrapper and because doesn't work in kodi 17.

I am a sound engineer. you say the wrong thing. .the sound mainly depends on the AV receiver setup because the speakers and the sound come out of it. are you sure !!! if you set the av receiver (also denon) as 7.1, can never read atmos dolby,  because atmos is a 5.1.2 or 5.1.4 audio system .this is right, like a commandment. then you can say what you want you. but this is my job

You could be whatever you want but I read the manual. :-D
ATMOS says where the sounds are in the space and the receiver locate them in order to the speakers configuration.
I can read read ATMOS even with STEREO configuration.

I don't have an Atmos capable receiver or TV. I have only a stereo DAC and a 4K monitor.

I have no problems playing Atmos files thru firmware 2.0x using Kodi. But reverted to firmware 1.09 since it fas many problems.

With 1.09 I am using MX Player Pro  w/ custom codec to do the job.

With kodi 17 without the wrapper, activating or not the passthrough, I read "Multichannel 7.1 input" always.

ATMOS works not only as 5.1.2 or 5.1.4 but also as 7.1 , you just have to define in the AV receiver setup where the loudspeakers are (front L-R, middles or top L-R and Back L-R and subwoofer. I have a PIONEER VSX-1131 and this is how you set it up when you don't have special DOLBY ATMOS speakers. And yes, there is a difference in the sound output between DOLBY TRUE-HD and ATMOS as I have tried many sound files of both format and checked what the AV RECEIVER is outputting via the LCD panel of it and also my own sound judgement, whenever I play a DOLBY TRUE-HD movie and then a DOLBY ATMOS movie I hear the difference and it is quite noticeable.
You don't have to be a sound engineer to know that, it is enough if you are a multimedia advanced user and study carefully the manuals and do your own testings. :)
