This issues with overlapping subtitles can be easily fixed, just run the subtitles through a software that can fix this even in a batch. I really do not see this as such a big issue like the others that have not been fixed by HiMedia and cannot be fixed by us.

I have over 500 subtitles in various folders in my library. I won't start to fix them all just because they cannot fix an issue which all player are able to handle. I already done that when they were unable to implement auto encoding recognition in their player. Which is still not working btw. Furthermore if I download a subtitle with the online plugin now I need to turn on my PC and fix it instead of just start watch the movie. I paid HiMedia good money for a compact player. I don't want to do additional work with every second movie I want to watch. I just want to hit the play button eat my pizza drink my beer and enjoy.
Problem of overlapping subtitles (letters) has been said several times.
Still not adjusted.
Especially I would use himediaplayer the quality of images is outstanding.
But because of the overlap and also not being able to display double subtitle at the same time as mxplayer I do not use himedia player.
And also left / right time scaling put a limit (eg 10sec, 30sec, 1min)
And kodi does not read HDR.
I say that for the bilingual countries in the cinema one displays the 2 national languages during a film + forced subtitle.

I have encountered a couple of problems with this new software
1) xvid.avi files are played back in full screen not letterbox as it should, I've checked the playback settings and full screen is not selected (kodi without the wrapper plays them back correctly as letterbox, as does vlc on my computer)
2) Youtube 4k 60fps clip is played back at 23.976fps not 60fps (vlc tools on my computer shows the playback properties for this file as 60fps).

The error is not just overlapping subtitles, this error can be fixed as you describe.
The error is when the <EndTime> of subtitile-1 and the <StartTime> of subtitle-2 is less than a frame apart, then you risk losing the display of subtitle 2.

I am forced to use Kodi for playing such media files.
If you use Kodi  you don't get Multichannel surround sound argh  :-[

MX Player works perfectly (sub+hd sound). I posted a thread how to configure it under Kodi to be the default player.

With Android 7 releases (I don't remember how it worked in version 5.1) you don't get multichannel audio.
At least not with a HDMI connection.
All audio get downmixed to 2 channel PCM.
I have tried almost all setting possible (pass through etc.) in Kodi but no luck.

I am pretty sure, that the hardware is capable but whether it is an Android or a Kodi issue eludes me.
If anyone has this working with a HDMI connection then please share your setup.

HD Audio passthrough is working. So if you pass the audio to a DTS/DD capable AVR you will get multichannel audio.

+1 to that, I get multiaudio channels even with the latest 7.1 sound formats (7.1 Dolby Atmos and 7.1 DTS:X ) through Kodi 17 rc, and also through the Himedia Media player through HDMI to my AV 7.1 receiver. and I am using the latest 2.0.1 Android 7.0 firmware.

After using the new 2.0.1 firmware for 3 days (I downloaded it from another forum where it was posted on Monday, but it is exactly the same package I already double checked for each of the files in the package) here are my impressions:

The Positives + :

- Better and louder sound overall
- Better image quality
- Very fast boot time, reduced to less than 20 seconds
- Kodi 17 RC runs smoothly, with 7.1 HD sound pass through finally working

The Negatives so far - :

- HDMI CEC still not working (will it ever be? I remember we have been claiming this since back in last summer when firmware 1.06-1.07 was used) , this is very annoying as it makes my AV receiver and Tv sync go crazy and I have to switch manually between the sources. I started when I connected the Q10 Pro to the system , others can confirm this as well, as I read is a general problem.

- HDMi resolution is not fixed, goes back to 1080 60P no matter what, if I choose 2160 60 p it keeps it longer but will ultimately change to 1080P 60p , thus forcing me to manually change to 4k again ( I do have an increasing collection of movies in 4k mkv format)

- Subtitles problems as stated before , the annoying bug of not showing some subtitles if frames change fast.

- If I play some 5.1 or 7.1 mkv music files under KODI 17 they remain silent (the known bug of not having 2 sound tracks one of 2.0 and one of 5.1/7.1) , with Himedia media center they work just fine.

I don't use KODI a lot, since I prefer the image and sound quality of the HiMedia Media Center so I cannot explain about plugin experiences and other image/sound problems others have reported.
Also I do not use Netflix, or Amazon Prime with Q10Pro, my netflix works just perfect in 4k and 5.1 sound with my Panasonic TV Netflix App, and I use chromecast to cast Amazon Prime to my TV directly, thus I avoid using Q10pro for streaming. I am a bit picky on image and sound quality and I admit Panasonic Netflix quality spoils me so I am simply oppose to watch anything under 1080P these days.

Anyway I am sure I have missed some issues , but this is in overall what I have experiences in the past days.

HD Audio passthrough is working. So if you pass the audio to a DTS/DD capable AVR you will get multichannel audio.

My Surround receiver is an Anthem MRX 720, basically capable of playing all audio formats.
I have set all pass through formats to "on", is there anymore to do?

Please share how you made it work.

I can't help you about Kodi 17, I didn't tried it and I didn't plan to upgrade to it either.

Regarding MX Player, you can find my guide here:

Sorry, should have made it clear, that the issue is with Kodi 1.7 and not the HiMedia player.

I also have to confess, that the issue is related to a Q5 PRO and not a Q10.
But I assume the audio hardware/handling is the same.

The MX road is my third choice  :)

Under Kodi 17 RC , in system settings go to audio and mark the following:

Audio channels = 2.0
DECODE AC3 = NO !!!!!
Audio passtrough YES
Dolby HD capable receiver YES
DTS HD capable receiver YES
