Need Advise on 4K HDR10 Settings - Q5Pro
« on: January 15, 2017, 04:45:32 PM »
I am sorry if these questions have been asked and answered before; I found answer to similar type questions but I could not fully grasp most of them; my understanding of PQ settings is very juvenile. I would be very grateful if someone here could guide me on the following four Q5Pro PQ settings.

My TV is model LG 65UH650T http://www.lg.com/my/tvs/lg-65UH650T
65inch, 4K, HDR10 (Pro). The LG website claims that the display refresh rate on this TV is 100hz. It also has 4K up-scaling capability.

Here are my four Q5 PQ settings questions with the relevant snapshots attached:

1. Display format. Default was 1080P 60Hz.
Should I change it up to 2160 since my TV already has up-scaling capability? If yes, which refresh rate should I use? MY LG TV has a claimed refresh rate of 100hz.

2. HDMI Auto Adaptation. Default was off.
Should I leave it off?

3.  Video Color Space & HDMI Deep Color. Default was YCbCr444 8Bit
I changed it to YCbCr444 10Bit since the TV is HDR10 capable. Is this correct?
Or should I change it to another selection such as YCbCr420 10Bit? I have no clue what the differences are between all these.

4.  Display Advanced Options - TV HDR Mode
Default was AUTO. I changed it to HDR10 since the TV is HDR10 capable. Is this correct?
If yes, I guess I also need to go into the LG TV settings to turn on HDMI deep color for that HDMI input.

Thank you for your help.

1. Display format. Default was 1080P 60Hz.

Let it on 1080p 60Hz so you'll be abable to set your Video Color Space YcbCr444 10bits

Let the TV upscale

2. HDMI Auto Adaptation. Default was off.

From the moment when you set manually Display, Auto Adaptation is necessarily OFF

3. Video Color Space & HDMI Deep Color. Default was YCbCr444 8Bit

Change to YcbCr444 10bits

4.  Display Advanced Options - TV HDR Mode

Set SDR ON, because most of the available files you'll play will be SDR and you'll be able to define the PQ settings of the Himedia Player too

These are my settings. I have Sony 4K.
2160p 30Hz (4K TV up scaling is generally not sufficient)
YCbCr444 10Bit
HDMI Auto Adaptation off
TV HDR  Mode Auto

YCbCr420 10Bit will only work with 2160p 60Hz or 50Hz

Thank you all for your advise. I do appreciate it.

I have one clarification point which is bothering me.......my TV display refresh rate is 100hz. There is no option for 100hz....only 1080 50/60hz or 2160 30hz/50hz/60hz. Which hz do I choose?
And how does it affect the TV display since I'm choosing a lower hz? If it have some effect, then shouldn't I just select HDMI Auto Adaptation?

Apologies in advance if my question is dumb. I'm a novice.

TV display refresh rate at 100 hz is only pannel's LCD refresh rate, not input signal.
Tv electronic convert input signal to  LCD 100 hz;it is electronic elaboration to create more smooth playback, but is not always a good solution.
https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/100hz-lcd-tv-screens-worth-it.106840/

Frame interpolation is good  electronic elaboration for very smooth playback.

HDMI 2.0a signal is max 4k@60hz .
