This looks like the HiMedia Chinese TV streaming app.

It should only be present on the Chinese Pro firmware. Where did you get the 1.0.9 firmware from?

I too found that app installed when I booted up my box yesterday. I just uninstalled it but this is an issue. No app should be installed without my consent. Please fix. I too have updated by OTA to 1.0.9 that poped up a week ago on my screen. Thanks!

I have asked HiMedia to clarify the situation and will post what they say.

But I suspect that the app has always been installed but is usually invisible. It's part of the Chinese 1.0.9 firmware.

I agree that the box shouldn't be installing apps without your consent, but it this case I don't think that is what has happened.

i got the firmware from here!!!

and when you deinstall it it installs itself again after boot!

and after installing itself it starts itself every boot!!!

i rooted the device and deleted the app and all the folders and put over it a custom rom from a german - now the app is gone and history

the folders which are new in root are:

- COM.KTCP.TVVIDEO
- KTCP_GUID_DIR
- DATA/DATA/COM.KTCP.TVVIDEO
- KTCPVIDEO
- VROM
- downloadapk_channel - with apk inside

they come up everytime the app had been deleted and the device had been booted

I was on the latest firmware 1.09 when my unit updated itself with any warning, a minute after boot up this morning. All my apps were deleted, and several Himedia installed apps were also deleted, including chrome browser. I had not installed any unusual app, except for the fake android tv that I got via this forum. My concern is how safe is my sensitive information on this unit, if it could be hijacked and updated without my consent. I got the fw 1.09 on this forum, and unlike some others no Chinese apps were installed after the unauthorized update.

Installing fake android tv is a fairly major deviation from standard firmware. It requires accessing the box via ADB and changing system files.

What you describe sounds like a factory reset. When you say 'my unit updated itself with any warning' exactly what happened?

This thread was originally about an app appearing which the user thought they did not have installed. I'm fairly sure (awaiting confirmation from HiMedia) that this app is present in all firmware versions but is hidden in international firmware 1.0.9. It's HiMedia's Chinese streaming TV app and is harmless.

As to whether the device could be hijacked, I'd say it's much less likely than with your TV, router, PC. etc..

I meant "without" any warning. Indeed, it is a reset, because all parameters including time, video and sound were reverted back to their original setting.

this cannot be because the app will be downloaded after each booting and the folders (see above) are set up every time new
those had been not there before!!!

and very heavy is, that this app is starting automatically after booting!!!

All HiMedia system apps (of which this appears to be one) are stored in a separate location and will reinstall on next boot if you uninstall them. This stops stuff like the launcher and other vital apps from being deleted so the box won't function. Nothing is being downloaded. You could test this by disconnecting the box from the network, deleting a system app, and rebooting.

exact this i tested - and without internet the app will NOT be installed!!!!
so your statement is in my oppinion not correct

and this app is definitivly downloaded!
because if you delete all the connected folders - see posting above - the folder downloadapk_channel is build and in this the apk is inside and will be installed later

an no other app is starting automatically after booting
except this one so the gui is overrules and the app is coming up
see screenshot above!

IT IS A PART OF THE FIRMWARE. IT'S NOT BEING DOWNLOADED OR COMING FROM ANYWHERE.

I admit that it is confusing and that it shouldn't be visible, but it's nothing to worry about. It's a Himedia system app usually only visible in the Chinese version of the Q5/Q10 Pro firmware.
