Q10 Pro Fan Noisy
« on: November 28, 2016, 07:21:53 PM »
After 7 months of use  (purchased form a third party/Ebay on May when Futeko was out of stock) my Q10 Pro fan becomes noisy (whines very much)...that it becomes a bit irritating when viewing movies or listening to music.

Any suggestions???

The fan should be near silent.

You could try tightening the fan fixing screws. They may have worked loose. There are 4 Phillips head screws around the fan on the back panel.

Or, and this is a bit manual but does work, if debris / dust has become stuck inside the fan you could try sucking it out with a vacuum cleaner.  ???  :)

Be very, very careful when using a vacuum cleaner, since it can pull stuff away and could damage it entirely. I would try disassembling it with a proper Philips driver and cleaning it that way.

There's not too much inside the Q10 Pro that could be sucked out, but you are right. If possible clean it properly.

After I had been disappointed with the assembly of the box and the suspicious jarring noise coming from the fan, I have returned my first ordered box to Futeko to get another new device (as they suggested). With the second box, the assembly was in it's place, but the fan still jarred with a high frequency noise, just like in the case of the first box (came to me audible in a silent room from like 30cm close to the Box).

That's my "strange" experience according the fan and the warranty exchange...

For clarity, the first box had a very unusual fault where the casing was not fitted correctly. This return happened 4 months ago.

All fans will be audible to a certain degree, but the Q10 Pro's is very quiet.

Being dissapointed because the fan is audible with your ear 30cm from the box in a silent room is setting the bar very high.

If you don't put a HDD into it, it is very safe to disconnect the fan. The HDD will most likely anyway produce more noise than the fan, specifically if it is a Seagate. A remote NAS in another room together with a disconnected fan is probably the only valid setup here to get zero noise. Nothing wrong with that setup by the way. I am too old myself to hear this at a normal viewing distance.

My practical experience with other similar build players (=with sturdy aluminum cases) is that a fan is only essential when inserting a HDD and running it under tropical conditions (high humidity and 30/40+ degrees centigrade). Retro-fitted some players with a fan for that reason.

Ok, so to be more clear also myself this time: I have recorded and shared a video (with sound o.c.)  from the jarring sound in this Forum and on another Forum.  Tho' the replies by the users here were contradictory and varied (and also just several), I have been assured on another Forum's Himedia Player Topic, that this sound couldn't be normal, as they reflected that their Boxes fans doesn't produce any similar at all. Even you admitted, that the position of the case defect is on the fans side, that could have caused the anomaly of the fans noise. This, and the fact, that all the other users (I have read so far) opinion is that their Q10 Pro's fans is very quiet in general, juts doesn't fit quite with the audible fact you can hear on that demonstration video I've made from the issue. (Please just take a bit time and will of focus, to listen to the recorded noise a several times, than, try to compare with your own devices noise from the same distance. I don't really think that you will find the comparison quite "equal".)
And the exactly same effect you will hear if I would make another recording from the current condition.

And to also be clear regarding any misunderstanding: I'm not blaming or accusing anyone with anything on Futeko, (I'm pleased that the warranty exchange went quite smooth and that at least the second one didn't had any external deformity.) I have just stated that this kind of recurrence of the exactly same kind of issue, with two different devices appears to me more than a bit "unusual".
