Q5 Pro and ext sdcard problems
« on: November 28, 2016, 08:36:19 AM »
Hello,

A fresh newbee here!

I have a question, recently I bought the Q5 pro, decided to go for the Q5 instead of the Q10.. But I regret that choice now.

The 5 only has 8gb of storage, which means with the software and apps it gives me about 4gb left to install stuff..

I found this forum through googling, and I saw the Nougat version, so I first installed it when I got the chance. But soon realized the Nougat version doesn't support apps to sd. So I switched back to 5.1 (1.08 version, it came with 1.03 version out of the box)

Where I thought I could move app to (external) sdcard, because I have a 32gb card in the sdcard slot. Not.. The Q5 sees the sdcard but doesn't move the apps to it.  It seems to move it somewhere but not to my external sdcard. And after a reboot everything is back to normal settings.

So I'm stuck. I have a 32gb sdcard, which I cant use to move apps to, only for storage movies and music, but hey, like everyone I use Kodi, Netflix, PT, Spotify etc.. So I stream all the content so no need for storage.

I want to use the player for gaming to. I have a Sony android tv 4K but the gpu isn't strong enough to game, that's why i bought the Q5

Also with Kodi, streaming movies gives me a lot of stuttering, it plays a few seconds, stops, plays, stops, plays, stops and so on.
I tried the kodi player as well the wrapper player, but it gives the same result. And that on 1080p. Thought it was the best kodi player available?
Or is it something with my settings?

So I m a bit disappointed.. The Q5 looks great, performs well with gaming although sometimes I have some problems using my Logitech F710 gamepad but hey I can live with that.

Did anyone encounter problems with using a sdcard for extra storage?

Some APP's allow to move some parts/data to an External SD-card. This via Settings ==> APP's  ==> specific APP options

Starting with I believe Marshmallow the External SD-Card can be optionally formatted as Internal Android storage. You then may install new APP's completely on it, this inclusive the data they create.  For formatting as Internal storage a build-in SD-Card format option is needed. The current Android N included by Himedia does not include such option (yet). We can only hope it will be included in a future upgrade. I have seen it on competing products as a standard feature (with Leanback Android OS versions).

A SD-Card formatted for Internal should not be removed as it may make the system unstable. It can't be used in another device just moving the card to it due to device specific security settings applied. This according the documentation found on it.

Yes i tried that, but it seems it moves it to my my external sdcard, but it doesn't.

The internal storage is split? 4gb for factory and firmware and 4gb for apps etc?

So it seems it moves it to the last one, instead of my external sdcard.

I have asked Himedia for the ability to move apps to SD Card or format SD card as internal storage.

Well tried it with rooting and the Link2SD app, but it doesn't work how I want it to work, the link works but starting the app it will download the needed files again and put it in the internal sdcard. So now i have the files on the external and internal sdcard.
