4k 60p playback
« on: November 26, 2016, 04:27:48 PM »
Hi there,

I may be way off the mark here, but will 60p playback become available on either the Q5PRO/Q10 PRO?

It is not a deal breaker for me at this time as some of the 4k content I have seen is not 60p, however I am concerned about the future of video media becoming available as download only and being 60p.

Both these machines are of interest to me, just wondered if they will be able to get firmware updates to cope with the higher frame rate in the future, or is the hardware actually the limit with 60p playback?

Only thing really left to say is  "is 60p actually irrelevant at this time and I should just go ahead and buy the model that best suits me"?

Would be grateful to hear from the experts out there on this particular area, just want to make sure I don't buy something that ends up not being able to play files I buy in the future.

Thanks very much in advance for any and all advice

I think I tried one file and it worked pretty well. It is all about the bitrate, at over 100 Mbit even my 6 core (12 with hyperthreading) PC cannot play it nicely. I think it Q10/Q5 Pro should do well at a reasonable bitrate (I cannot tell you what is the highest bitrate because you must really go with trial and error).

Thanks for the feedback,

I was looking for some reassurance in this area. Having considered that 60 fps would be available I thought long and hard about which model to buy.

So a Q5 pro will be ordered oh such fun.

Thanks for the help.

I will of course continue using the forum for tips and updates, and perhaps passing on some of my experiences with the Q5.

Thanks again

If you do not want to use an internal HDD, then go for the Q5 Pro. The Q5 Pro also has only 8 GB of internal memory.

There was a thread last week about max bitrate on Q5/Q10 Pro.

I was able to play the 400mbps 4K HEVC Jellyfish sample without a problem from internal flash. Other users have reported 250mbps+ over ethernet.

Thanks for the tip, I am not a big app downloader so the 8gb internal flash should be enough, I have all my movies on hard drives now, some of course I have kept on disc just in case. The Q5 does look like my best bet.
