Kodi stuttering with some files
« on: October 31, 2016, 04:05:00 PM »
Hi guys, I'm not expert with video technique so I would like to definitive clarification. Sometimes I noticed stuttering during playback video with Kodi and I can't understand why. My TV is fully compatible with 24p. With a video in HD or FHD no problems. Only when I watch video that is a mux of TV or Web. Sometimes at 23,976, sometimes at 25p etc. Now I don't remember all questions that I would to ask  :P so I start with these:

1. If a video is at 25p, it's better to set output resoluzion at 50hz?

2. In Kodi playback option there's an option like "Adjust display refresh rate to match video". It's better to set it on "Always"? Default is Off.

Looun se non mi sbaglio tu sei italiano. Quindi te lo scrivo nella nostra madrelingua.  ;D Una volta installato lo script, se come risoluzione ho 720p 60hz, come devo impostare lo script?

@Fa.Ch Only with dvdplayer. I use wrapper only with files in HD or FHD because below these resolution I have a lot of judder that I hope himedia fix very soon.

You have a 720p ('HD-Ready') maximum resolution TV?

HiMedia Q5/Q10 Pro do not support 23.976/24Hz at 720p.

720p 23.976/24Hz is upscaled to 1080p and output at correct refresh rate.

This is the same behaviour as most other products, TVs supporting 720p 24Hz are very rare, what TV brand/model is it?

Get a new TV!

Half joking, but pairing a 720p TV with HiMedia Q10Pro is an unusual combination.

I think you should set Q10 Pro output to 720p 60Hz, as this is the maximum resolution your TV panel supports. Regardless that it will accept 1080p signals these are being downscaled by the TV to 720p. Q10 Pro should do a better job of this. I don't think your TV supports 720p 24Hz.

I know that I have to buy a recent tv just for pleasure, but problem is not this. (My tv has a colors much better respect a recent tv that I saw).

I searched for good and I know for a fact that supports 24hz. Here's a full specifications if you want:

http://www.lcd-compare.com/televiseur-LG42PQ2000-LG-42PQ2000.htm
https://www.amazon.de/LG-HD-Ready-Plasma-Fernseher-integriertem-schwarz/dp/B0026MKVNQ

Anyway, 24 or not 24, himedia must definitely fix microstuttering and judder. With a PC, PS3, MacBook Pro and simple dvd player connected to the TV with hdmi I don't get any stuttering with all type of format with various fps. Also with my old WD TV Player that I selled to buy Q10 Pro.  So the problem is not tv because if so every person with a no-recent TV in the world would have problems with video files.

As I said at the begin of thread, I don't get any problem with file in HD and FHD. Only with SD quality, and this is unacceptable because an universal player should not focus only on high formats and failing with low formats that are still a standard.

UPDATE: I changed output to 720p 50hz and stuttering with 25fps is less frequent and perceptible. So i think himedia frame switch is based on HZ and this is a big and totally error, because the framerate switch is must be based on FPS of video files. It's a very shame for a potential box. I hope himedia will change these point for next major fw release.

Without the additional HMP patch theres no stutter with 24p SD material, with HMP. I wasn't able to test 25p or 30p SD videos tho', like avi or wmv. With DVD's there is still the deinterlace bug in the firmware, which causes rough edges, but have no experience if stuttering also.

Simply set the wrapper to HMP if the stuttering only appears with KODI Player.

With HMP stuttering is less evident with 25fps but there's judder also with 23,976fps. With video in HD/FHD no problem. Yesterday I watched American Horror Story 6x02 WebRip quality and fortunately I don't noticed any stuttering. An ironic example is with my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 connected through HDMI adapter. It can play all files without stuttering or judder.
