Very Very Buggy - Bitterly Disappointed....PLEASE HELP!!!!
« on: October 26, 2016, 05:17:25 PM »
Just received my Mini MX and after spending two hours with it I am bitterly disappointed with the product. i am not sure if its the hardware or LibreELEC KODI port, but its not working at all expected. Below are the issues I am facing.

1. Wifi :: It just does not connect to my Home Wifi. Now dont tell my home wifi is buggy coz atleast 10 devices are connected with my wifi. Problem just does not end here. Once LibreELEC throws an error (which I cannot read as it just goes away too quickly) The entire system just hangs and I have to reset (poweroff/on) the system.
Now this is not onetime thing, this happens every time I go into wifi and try to connect to my SSID, I get an error (for half a sec) and then the system hangs.
Tried forlike 8 times before I gave up.

Finally I just connected the system via LAN

2. Now I copied some heavy duty demo 4K 10 bit files to test the system. Small bitrate files like 10mbps 10 bit works fine, but when I copy large 100+mbps 4K 10 bit files it hangs the entire system again????. Now if I reboot (like plugout the power) and then go in to videos and play the same file it plays nicely. Then again if I copy another fresh 100+ Mbps file and try to play, system hangs. Then I have to again plug out the power, re boot and then if I play the same file again it plays fine. From there on this cycle continues. This BUG only comes when I copy a fresh new file on the box and try to play .... it hangs the system, once rebooted the same file plays fine and keeps playing fine from there on, UNTILL I COPY A FRESH NEW FILE ............ weird BUG if you ask me.

3. HDMI CEC :: man I dont know how this is configured, the box would not allow me to change HDMI select, if its on. If I select my cable box on HDMI 4, it just flick and I am brought back to the box. Untill I switch off the box completely, I am not able to change the HDMI input ..????  Strange man

I NEED TO KNOW. Is there a possibility to remove LiberELEC and install OpenELEC on the box, coz I believe its not the hardware that is causing the problems its the OS. openELEC has been performing for me for like years now and I would really like to have openELEC on this box.

Please advice and Guide

Thanks in advance
Sammy

Thanks for the update and support, I ordered two Minix actually, coz the hardware specs were really good and I do not want an Android Box. So I will check the other box and see if the issue is same, if not then yes this one might be faulty and I will ask your inputs as to how to return it. The reason I went for this product was that it acts like a KODI Media box, that boot directly into kodi and also is not as expensive as say other boxes like NUC out there.

Coming to high bitrate 10bit 4K files, its not that this box does not play it, it looks like a BUG. When you first copy the files it wont play and will hang the entire system and then when you reboot it, it plays fine, I have tested a 140Mbps 10 Bit 4K file and it does play it smoothly, just not on the first attempt. Once the system is rebooted the files plays and keeps on playing on all successive attempts. Then when I copy another "fresh" new 100+mbps file it will again hang on the first attempt. Once re started it will then successfully play the file.

So yes I believe this might be an Hardware fault. I shall try doing the same with the other box I ordered, and see what happens and will report.

Is that any other Media Box you have, Not Android Box, but like this that boot directly in to KODI.

Regards
Sammy

There is another LibreELEC firmware that can be installed on MiniMX, and it's getting rapid community development.

If you can't get what you want working with the pre-installed Amlinux firmware then this one is worth a go: https://forum.libreelec.tv/thread-1924.html

We don't sell any other LibreELEC boxes at the moment. We would like to but the successor to the S905 chipset in MiniMX, S905X, whilst adding some features like HDR support, takes away Gigabit LAN which we think neccesary for a 4K box. Our next LibreELEC box will be based on Amlogic S905D chipset, like S905X but with Gigabit LAN / dual-band wi-fi / 2GB RAM / 16GB flash. When we'll have that product ready though we don't know - no factories are making them yet.

Only S905 has the depth of community support to get stable LibreELEC running on it. No other modern chipset (except RPi I guess, but that's slightly different) has it.

For this new firm ware under known issues, I saw this ..

Known issues:
Opening some high bitrate HEVC files/streams may lead to system lock - this is a bug in Amlogic hardware decoder memory allocation code.

I think this is what is happening with the Box. What I need to know is has this issue been resolved in this new firmware or is it still a known issue?

It's a known issue and has not yet been resolved. I wouldn't have thought many users would run into it as a bug though, and development for MiniMX is still very much active so I fully expect it to be fixed in future.
