Surround sound settings
« on: April 23, 2015, 11:28:40 PM »
Hi,  I have a fairly good AV receiver and just wanted to know what settings I should use in the sound settings for the HDMI/SPDIF/HBR outputs,  if I wanted my receiver to do all the decoding  or out put dolby true HD
Thanks

If your receiver has HDMI inputs and supports 7.1 channel DTS-HD MA and TrueHD then:

HDMI Output: RAW
SPDIF Output: Close
HBR Degrade Output: RAW 7.1

Will these settings let the Reciever do all the decoding so all my av receiver is receiving is PCM.  So i can then use Pro Logic IIx to upscale 5.1 to 7.1

With those settings your receiver will be receiving the raw audio stream. So DTS, TrueHD or whatever.

If your receiver can decode those streams then it will work as you describe. It probably can so I'd go for those settings first.

If you want the audio passed as PCM then you need to change the 'HDMI Output:' setting from 'RAW' to 'LPCM'.

Sorry for the question: assuming there are no bugs in the FW, in case I have a 5.1 setup, I should go for HBR: RAW 5.1, right? Thanks

Hi, what's the difference from raw https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raw_audio_format to lpcm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulse-code_modulation ?, both are untouched, i mean direct sound to the receiver?
Thanks

LPCM is not untouched, it is HD-Audio processed by the Q5/Q10 and then passed according to the LPCM (HDMI / DVD) standard. You'll need a receiver capable of decoding LPCM signal from HDMI.

Raw in the context of the Q5/Q10 settings is HD-Audio passed in it's original form. You'll need a receiver capable of decoding the stream to play it.

Raw is better for people with DTS-HD MA / TrueHD receivers because these receivers will decode the stream in higher quality than Q5/Q10.
