Controlling the Q5 from a tablet (or smartphone)
« on: September 14, 2016, 11:21:02 AM »
Last week I bought the Q5, but I find the usage of the remote control to type in characters and move through the Play Store not efficient.
So I went looking for an app that I could install on my tablet or smartphone to be able to use these devices as a keyboard and mousepad for my onscreen-activity. In the FAQ here I came across HiControl http://www.mediafire.com/download/8uilxt0hv70j5lo/HiControl_hmdCV200.apk but when I start this up on my tablet and I select the Q5 from the list (which also is the only device on the list) it gives me an error message (which I can't mention here now because I'm at work). Thus, I cannot connect and take over the Q5...
Any suggestions?

Well, that is exactly the error I get. I also read that topic before posting here, but I don't understand what the solution is as it is written there.

What are the steps that I should take to solve this?

My situation is:
- Q5 connected through ethernet to my home-network
- tablet with HiControl connected by wifi to home-network

If tried to interpret the "solution" and tried:
- use Q5 with wifi and not ethernet
- setup a wifi-hotspot on the Q5 and connect my tablet to that hotspot
But none of these worked...

Also, the first time I run HiControl, search and select Q5, it gives me the error. If I let it search again, HiControl crashes...

What I can try and haven't done yet: running HiControl on my smartphone and see what happens... Any other suggestions?!

- Q5 connected through ethernet to my home-network
- tablet with HiControl connected by wifi to home-network

That should work no problems.

The linked thread refers to a problem where the phone running Hicontrol was also providing internet access to the network via an Android access point. Where is internet coming from on your network? What is the rest of the network like (i.e. router, any switches, anything else that might be interfering)?

Hi vads,
i'm who has written "solution".
Actually, i think "server refused" problem is to find in another issue of hicontrol software.

Infact, i used hicontrol for a while (without mirror screen), using my phone as hotspot wifi (sharing its internet connection).
I don't know exactly why, at certain moment, hicontrol refuses my phone with that message.

I've tried many possible solutions, but nothing.
When.... i tried to use himedia as hot spot and connect my phone to that SSID, and all goes well.

But.... i think, the problem is in hicontrol in certain situation.
 ;)
