Author Topic: Connection Himedia to synology DS414 connection through NFS or LAN does not work  (Read 14222 times)

I have the himedia Q10 pro now for about 2 weeks and I simply cannot make this thing work with my Synology DS414.
This box promises me high def audio (DTS, Atmos, ...) and also should be capable of playing all current video formats.
Here's what I tried :
I can connect the Himedia through Kodi (Jarvis) and installed (already 2 times) the latest firmware through USB coming from this website.
Doing that (connecting through Jarvis), I am able to play videos using the default DVD player. The wrapper does not work, but I already read that in an number of articles. When playing through the DVD player, my high def audio comes into my AVR as stereo. The only sound Jarvis is capable of passing is 5.1 DD. But that is also explained in a number of articles.

So I tried to connect the Himedia through its MediaCentre function (so not via Kodi Jardis).
When I try to connect using LAN performing an autosearch, I am getting an error 'no server'
When I try to connect using NFS, the NAS is found and I can see the NFS share. However, when I try to connect, it throws me a 'new server error'.

I can's seem to connect my Himedia Q10 Pro with my NAS using the Q10 connections.
I've tried reinstalling the Himedia, changing NAS settings, you name it. Nothing seems to be working.
My NAS runs on DSM 6.0.1-7393 Update 2
My Himedia runs on Q10 PRO FIRMWARE. 1.0.5-FUTEKO-EN. HMD-1.0.5 2016-07-07.151525

I really bought this Mediaplayer to get the max out my AVR. My old PCH (Popcorn) could not handle full hd combined with true HD/Atmos (the audio started stuttering) and I really expect that from this machine. That is the main reason I bought it. Am I making the wrong assumption that these high end media players should be NAS capable right out of the box ? I can't be the only person running a Synology NAS combined with this mediaplayer, am I ?
I'm still hoping I have some setting wrong in my NAS, but the NAS worked fine with my PCH for years connecting through NFS. Same with my PC.

Any ideas on how to solve this would be helpful.
I remember I struggled with my PCH in the beginning, but that was just a couple of hours.
Now I am struggling for about 2 weeks without any progress and I'm getting desperate.

Thanks in advance

First thing please install firmware 1.0.6. There appears to have been a bug in 1.0.5 (related to incorrect reporting of time) which caused LAN to have problems if the box isn't also connected to the internet. http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1045.0

I suspect that might fix things.

You should get all formats (ATMOS, DTS-HD MA, HEVC etc) with no problem via ethernet NFS and the Himedia mediacenter app. For Kodi+wrapper (wrapper should work for Samba/local - please explain how it doesn't work for you?) you should similarly get all formats.

NFS is not supported by wrapper except with the workaround detailed here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=813

There is some specific info about settings for a Synology NAS here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=759.0

Hi,

I installed the latest firmware and I am still getting the same error.
I also applied the settings on the NAS without success either.

I am still getting the same errors where LAN is telling me : no server and NFS is telling me new server error.
This is what I also tried :

Going to my synology NAS using chrome browser and port 5001 on my Himedia does not work.
It does work on my iPad and my phone. My phone also runs on android.
I installed connectbot on the Himedia and there is no ping reply from the NAS.
I do see the shares when I auto search NFS on the Himedia, but as described above, I get the new server error.

There must be something wrong in the settings of the Himedia
I can post some screenshots of settings on both NAS and Himedia, but not sure which info you need.
I've seen another thread with the same errors, but the solution is not really clear to me.

This box is driving me nuts. It's been standing here for 2 weeks useless.
The NAS is accessible from any other device (Windows 10 PC, iPad, android phone)

Update on this issue.
I installed ES file explorer from the playstore on the HighMedia box.
Browsing towards the Synology NAS works like a breeze using this file explorer.
It even gives me all the options on how to play the files and also (finally) sends the audio formats correctly towards my receiver (so no more Stereo for a DTS signal.
This concludes to me that there are still some issues in the firmware of this box. It must be the way how it mounts/accesses the NAS. Strange that this kind of basic functionality does not seem to be working. I can imagine
Hopefully this will be fixed in the next firmware as I would like to make use of Kodi to get a nice overview with posters etc.
ES file explorer just shows me the 'blunt' folders.

Hopefully this will help other people that are having similar issues.

This box is really driving me nuts. It has so much quality during playback, but I just can't seem to make it work with the wrapper.
The only way I can make this box work is either playing files through ES file explorer (android app) and selecting the Himedia videoplayer.

In Kodi, it does recognize my Synology and it fetches all the IMDB info, but the wrapper does not play. When I start a movie, the screen just flashes and shows me the movie overview again. When I auto-search in the media centre, I get a 'new server' error message.

I have tried the solution to mount the Synology NAS through a fixed mount on the sdcard with user / password without success.
Everything goes OK untill I try to mount the drive.

I put a lot of money in this thing. My Popcorn Hour was also a pain to set-up but at least I had film posters, it kept which movies I had seen, ...
This box plays and that's about it.  I'm still recommending it for its superb playback capabilities, but I really expected more for my money.

It must be some setting somewhere, but I don't know what info I need to provide so someone could tell me : that's not correct...

It works perfect with my Synology DS215j without any issues or Passwords.

"The only way I can make this box work is either playing files through ES file explorer (android app) and selecting the Himedia videoplayer."
I think, that you add the Synology in ES Explorer with user an Password, right? And in Kodi?
Try in Synology itself "map all users to admin", maybe it is a Problem of rights ...

I'm having no problems using Media Center. It doesn't find any of my Synology boxes using starch but I suspect is because guest is disable and will start disable cause I don't want to enable it. But I can add shortcuts and specify the Synology, the share, username and password.
I'm using firmware with Android 7 though.

Check on "Enable Local Master Browser" in synology settings.

I use a Synology 209, 210, 211, 211j and a 214se and using smb shares I get perfect operation. Does not help you but it does let you know that Synology and Himedia work together very well.

I would be very careful when using "Enable local Master Browser" on Synology.

THIS ALLOWS GUEST ACCOUNTS WITHOUT PASSWORD REQUIREMENT.

You could then possibly be open to unauthorised access from external networks and hacking and this is a security risk

I upgraded to the latest firmware 2.0.0 (android 7), but I'm still getting the same error.
Connecting using mediacenter and through LAN, keeps giving me the same 'new server' error.

I can enter all settings (IP, directory, user, pwd, shortcutname) and when I press OK, I get 'new server' error.

Why can I access my files using ES explorer (google play store app) without any issues and not through the mediacentre ?
This box is driving me crazy  >:(

@sirhc55 :

As you have experience with several NAS Synology. Could it have something to do with the set-up of the NAS ?
I'm running on the latest Futeko update (Android 7 + 2.0.0 final from futeko) combined with a DS414 running on DSM 6.0.2-8451 Update 7
Everything is connected through ethernet (using Devolo PowerLAN switches (both synology and Himedia are on the same switch).

As mentioned before, I am able to explore the diskstation using ES explorer from the Himedia box.
However, when I add the SMB location, I get an Error2 : Share not available' message.
I think it must be something on the Synology side that prevents access but I'm searching for a needle in a haystack.

I have seen this problem before but can't remember why. My synology works fine with the same software you are using so it must be a setting somewhere.

On your synology control panel, select user, then select username edit and check permissions, the folder and files you are trying to access should be read write.
