Firmware 1.0.5 issues
« on: July 23, 2016, 09:47:35 PM »
Since installing 1.0.5 I can't watch anything.  Movies playing will be fine for 5 minutes then lag out and it keeps happening. Movies on nas. Tv connected to network plays fine. Q10 played fine over network until 1.0.5 update.  I really have had enough of this box.  I have had it since release and it's never worked as advertised..always same excuses..being worried on..coming in next firmware update..fine fixed 10bit uhd playback bit now I can't watch fuck all. 140 quid for something unfit for purpose.

You tried a full re-install using the pin procedure? This is the first thing to do.

Videos are playing fine for me, they have been playing fine with every firmware.

But i'm having mp3 playback issues with KODI.
About 5 seconds before a song is about to end and the next song is about to play, playback gets very shortly interrupted.
It's a very short interruption, but still audible and annoying.

Are you playing video over network or from internal drive?

I found videos from internal drive were fine but videos over network would not play correctly.  Jumpy as hell..  constant judders and pauses..
Not an issue at all now I have 1.0.3 back on there.

Sounds like a network packet buffering which got lost during the 1.05 update.
What are you using: SAMBA,(NFS, DLNA)? This may help finding the cause.
Brand and model NAS used may also help as apparently not everybody using a NAS  is having this problem?

I don't get any issues with internal drive.  It only seems to be when streaming through ethernet.
Before anyone says its my network then I must point out after reinstalling 1.0.3 it all works fine.  Its as if they have borked the networking in firmware 1.0.5

Also after seeing this

Changelog (1.0.6 bugfix):

1. LED display showing"----" fixed
2. The box die in certain time when play HDR  fixed

It has me wondering if they have borked the networking.  Considering the usual amount of time we have to wait for a firmware update for them to suddenly release this with "ONLY" those 2 monitor fixes it makes me wonder...  1.  there were other issues which have not been listed there and they don't want to mention. 2. if they can screw up LED code while making the changes they did in 1.0.5 then clearly it is possible they could have messed up networking.

Jumping over songs with MP3 is a real challenge. The only way for a music player to achieve this is advanced buffering and gluing the streams together.
If not the output stream is interrupted and many AMP's will do a new handshake then to detect the format of the new audio stream. This often results in a very short hiccup. The brand and type of AMP may produce different experiences.

I have seen very few music players doing this correctly and  a lot with similar problems (end is missing, start is missing etc).  HW based players do a better job here (mostly). Using myself Total Commander for the time being to play music files (as strange as that may seem). Waiting for Himedia to address the various audio flaws present in the Music Player.

The problem with your theory is that there are thousands of Q5/Q10 Pro users, with only you having this 1.0.5 networking problem (at least as far as I can see via forum/email). Our 1.0.5 FW package has been downloaded > 1,300 times and we are only one source for this firmware. The HiMedia support page will have had a lot more.

Do you have the same problem with 1.0.6?

This is the first box i'm having this issue with.
I've been using KODI/XBMC for 11 years...

Ok so this is what I have done.

Tested by installing these version.  All installs via USB and button.

Installed 1.0.5 : going wrong
Installed 1.0.3 : fine
Installed 1.0.6 : fine.

Just to confirm I went back

Installed 1.0.5 : going wrong
Installed 1.0.6 : fine.

Seems there was more broken than they claim in release notes for 6 hence urgent fix.
