Easier to do this via the Q10 than Windows. If you do it from Q10 then no need for Samba or any other setting to be changed.

I would recommend installing ES File Explorer (free from Play Store). It's a much better file manager than the pre-installed one.

Navigate to the network location in ES File Explorer (under Network - LAN tab), copy the files (copy at bottom of ES File Explorer screen), navigate to the HDD in Q10 Pro (listed as sda1 at top left of ES File Explorer) and paste where you want.

Doing it using Windows is possible but you'll have to navigate Windows' difficulties with permissions (the problem you are having I think - see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQZXEcFwp28) and then you'll have to override the destination has not enough space message (a quirk in how Samba server works from Q10 Pro.

Pixel Media Server is only for streaming via DLNA/UPNP. It won't help with file copying.

Use Total Commander for Android myself. Works fine also on Q10 Pro. Use it even to play my music (very easy to create an in-flight playlist).

If you are used to it using under Windows it is simply great. For a novice user it may look complicated at the start but keep in mind with Total Commander a lot can be customized/tailored to the exact things/actions you want to do with it regularly.

Glad you got it working with ES File Explorer.

I think the reason you can't see Q10 Pro in Windows 10 is a Windows 10 setup problem and not Q10 Pro. We'd have had lot's of feedback about it not working with Windows if it didn't work at all, and we haven't.

Maybe, but it is a bit odd.  Up until 5 days ago I had the Q10 and windows 10  could see and access all folders on it. All I did was upgrade to Q10 Pro without changing anything in Windows (and used same ip settings in the Q10 Pro - as those used in the Q10) -  Just tried disabling firewalls, etc. in case there was an issue there but no luck either.

I have had no issues using Windows 10 to access the hard drive on the Q10 Pro.  I don't recall doing anything special (except turn on Samba) when I installed the hard drive.  I did allocate a fixed IP address to the Q10 Pro (as I have found previously this helps many Windows networking issues).

I did a network search in standard File Explorer and it found  "ANDROID_B927C" alongside my other NAS and network drives.
Clicked on that;   /share/sda/sda2 and there was full file access to the internal hard drive in the Q10 Pro.
I have copied and pasted files using Win10 File Explorer.

Note it is also possible to "cast" a video or music to the Q10 Pro from Win10 File Explorer (right click file "Cast to Device"; "TV Box@39(HIMEDIA)".

As originally thought, the problem is with folder permissions in the Q10 Pro

Using an app called Advanced Tools (Google Play) I saw that folder permissions for /sda1 (the volume I am trying to access from win10) is set at rwx rwx --x.
As soon as I changed the last group (others) to rwx the volume was accessible in windows.  ( Similar situation with /sda as well  - rwx rwx --x )

However the advanced tools app does not allow me to set it for all sub-folders automatically, meaning that I have to enable all one by one.  This will take ages...

Ideally there must be a command that I can run in Termux to set it for all sub folders.
Any suggestions?

My permissions are the same, but no problem at all.

Well  problem was solved by factory reset of the Q10Pro and changing the IP address to a new one (always use the manual rather than auto mode).

When I removed the Q10 from the network I used its ip address on the newly installed Q10 Pro for convenience and because I was used to that ip being for the himedia device (same ip used from when I had the H900b) - maybe this is what was causing the issue. Anyway, all is well now.

Thank you all for your help. Have a nice weekend.
