Subtitles in wrapper
« on: July 05, 2016, 03:53:13 PM »
How do I get Swedish letters in subtitles in wrapper. Tried Nordic encoding but not working. In kodi it works ok...  The srt file is Swedish....of course...

I've tested some Swedish subtitles on 'Nordic(ISO8859_4)' setting and they look OK to me.

At least, they look the same as they do in a PC text editor with the dots and circles above letters. But I can't read Swedish so I'm probably missing something.

Can you point to an srt file where you see problems and explain what should be displayed vs what is displayed?

Encoding of subtitles can be tricky, believe me I'm Danish :-)

Normally they are Unicode 8 or ANSI encoded (at least this is considered "best practise")
I normally convert all my subtitles to Unicode by using:  Notepad++

This one shows the Swedish letters as Squares in wrapper, but looks fine in kodi internal...

I had also problem with hungarian (central european) subtitles. My solution was to convert the subtitle to ANSI encoding.
Actually I use ANSI only from a long time now, because as I noticed hardware players prefer it over Unicode.

@plasmapalle:
Your attached subtitle looks perfect for me with internal player on Nordic encoding.

Try Baltic(CP1257) - near the bottom of the list.

Not geographically correct, I appreciate, but the srt file displays correctly with that setting.

I have tried all of them, but they are not giving the Swedish letters. Also tried to change the default subtitle settings but no good result..

So one option for me is to change the default player to Kodi dvdplayer instead of wrapper. Change the playcorefactory.xml to what?

So only use wrapper in Atmos Movies...

What aspect of the sample srt you posted does not display correctly using himediaplayer? It appears to display as it should when I test it.

Can you post a photo of the problem?

Modifying the wrapper to only play atmos audio  with rest going to dvdplayer should be possible via the audiocodec parameter, but it's not easy and will require some research into how the codec is reported within Kodi.

I don't get that with the sample you posted.

I get all the dots and circles above the letters as expected. See photos below.

That's with CP1257 encoding. Menu - Subtitle settings - Sub encode. Line spacing can also be adjusted in that menu - it's a bit tight in the second photo.

Is the video/srt played with wrapper?

Is the video/srt played with wrapper?

Yes, played with wrapper.

It also displays correctly on Western Europe (ISO8859_1) and Nordic (ISO8859_4) settings.

In fact, the only way I can get boxes like in your photo is to choose one of the Thai, Korean, or Hebrew options (non Roman alphabets).
