power consumption
« on: June 08, 2016, 05:33:50 AM »
Hello
Has someone measured the power consumption of the unit since it doesn't support standby?

Before someone shoots me (for bringing up a old thread), this was one of the exact questions that was asked 1 1/2 years ago with no response.
The 2nd part of this I will add: What is the power consumption in standby since that appears to now be a function?
This would preferably be using US power standards (120v) with a HDD attached. This is with a Q10.

This deal with standby, I see on the front panel & on the remote what appears to be a power or standby button. Did I understand correctly when this 1st came out those did not work?
I have also read boot time is around 20 seconds, is that correct?

Whether you call the Q5/Q10 Pro off mode standby or not is a moot point. Unlike many Android boxes Q5/Q10 Pro go properly off when you press the remote power button. This is a good thing as many Android boxes do little more than blank the screen.

Q5/Q10 Pro work like a BD player / TV etc and have a proper off mode whilst still allowing the IR remote to turn the box back on.

Using data from this review: http://hometheatrelife.com/himedia-q10-pro-review/

Standby/off power consumption: 0.8W
Idle power consumption: 5W
1080p video power consumption: 6.8W

Loads will obviously be higher if you add multiple HDDs.

When I did a search for reviews I believe I remember seeing that site, but it gets blocked in Opera Classic, with a green screen over their pages, so I blew it off.

I just labeled it standby/off to cover both terms. .8w meets the EPA guidelines of less than 1 watt standby (which all equipment should, but doesn't meet starting off with those TiVo DVR power hogs, at least the older ones).  I  agree with it actually going into true standby as opposed to just removing power from the output stage which is what TiVo does.

I loved the phrase:  "seriously huge device" when they described it's size. I guess anything fits that inaccurate description if you compare it with those 'toy' USB devices. (Firestick)  ::)
