Audio and Subtitle Porblems on Q10 Pro
« on: August 02, 2016, 07:59:38 AM »
I've just purchased Q10 pro.

but I have some problems which I need your help,

1) I can't have DD and DTS over SPDIF to AVR (AVR is Yamaha RX-A1010 supports DD, DD Plus, DTS, DTS HD) even with himedia player or Kodi. On the himedia player DD and DTS files come to AVR as surround but no DD or DTS icons on AVR. I think no problem over HDMI, because my TV shows DD and DTS icons on infobar.

2) No chance for surround signal over SPDIF to AVR for AAC files on himedia player.

3) I installed himedia wrapper on Kodi. No DD or DTS over SPDIF to AVR. I can have surround (not DD or DTS) if I choose 2.0output frm the audio settings on kodi, for all files DD, DTS and AAC etc. I also ticked enable passthrough, DD and DTS support.

4) I can not use .srt subtitles with the exact names with the video filen even in Himedia player or Himedia wrapper with Kodi in Turkish. I have to use forced subtitkles or dowload subtitle from Kodi interface.

I hope I can resolve my problems.

1. In HiMedia settings (Home - Settings - Playback) - HDMI Output: Close, SPDIF Output: RAW, HBR Output: RAW5.1. Those settings apply to himediaplayer (media center) and wrapper in Kodi.

In Kodi without wrapper: Change settings level to Advanced then Settings - SYSTEM - Audio output - Number of channels: 5.1, Enable passthrough, AC3 capable receiver, DTS capable receiver.

2. With settings as above this may now work.

3. Kodi setting make no difference if you have wrapper installed. It's main system settings that matter for wrapper.

4. If you can post a sample srt I can test and try figure it out. One of the options under Sub settings - sub encode should work for Turkish.

Thank you for the answer.

My settings are exactly what you advised. Anyway I gave up on SPDIF output, and decided to use a 4K HDMI splitter. So I connect the player via HDMI to TV for 4K resolution, and via HDMI to AVR for HD sounds.

My settings in playback settings, HDMI (RAW), SPDIF (Closed), HBR (RAW 5.1). When I use the media center, I can have surround sound on AVR but no Dolby Digital or DTS marks still. I tried this with connecting to AVR wtihout any splitter directly but same result.

I'm sure my AVR supports DD, DD True, TrueHD, DTS and DTS-HD.

On the other hand, I can't view any subtitles on the media center player doesn't matter forced or srt.

When I the 7 button on the remote, which says "subtitle" on the bottom left it does nothing.

@the wade, try set HBR output to 7.1. Other values are disabled passthrough.

I don't totally understand. So you get the 5.1 surround audio but the receiver doesn't indicate DTS/AC3?

Maybe try the 7.1 setting and see if it makes any difference. If your receiver support 7.1 then there's no disadvantage in selecting it.

On the other hand, I can't view any subtitles on the media center player doesn't matter forced or srt.

When I the 7 button on the remote, which says "subtitle" on the bottom left it does nothing.

The 7 button will cycle between available subtitles.

If you press remote menu button when playing video in himediaplayer then, in resultant menu go subtitle settings - sub switching. Do you see the srt?

Yes I get the sorrund sound but No DTS/DD/AC3 marks on AVR.

When I press menu button with himedia player it does nothing.

I've just installed the FW 1.0.6 via USB with recovery mode not OTA. So it's a clean install

If the AVR is producing surround then it's working. I'm not sure why you're not seeing DTS/DD etc but the DTS/AC3 signal is getting through OK.

Did you try settings Playback HBR option to RAW7.1?

Home - Settings - Playback:
HDMI Output: RAW, HBR Output: RAW7.1.

If you don't get a menu when pressing remote menu key are you sure you are using himediaplayer (i.e. home screen then mediacenter) or wrapper? What happens if you press OK on remote when playing a video?

Did exact same, HDMI : Raw and HBR:Raw 7.1 still getting surround but no DD/DTS/AC3 mark on AVR, so strange.

I resolved the subtitle thing. I was connecting to NAS over UpNP section of media player, I used the LAN section and created a shortcut, now menu and subtitles are all ok on the media player side. I will try to password thing as mentioned on the sticky topic for Kodi SMB connection for using himedia wrapper.

Anyway media center player has better performance on x265 rips than himedia wrapper on Kodi, it was important to get subtitles.

Still no idea why dont get marks on AVR, i think will give up on this.

When there is and sign in the beginning and at the end of the sentence, Kodi player can display the subtitle italic, but wrapper can not do so. It displays these signs on the screen. Can wrapper be skillful as kodi player about this matter?

I'll pass it on to Himedia as a bug.
