One may argue if this a feature request or a bug report, but Q10 Pro fails to detect any Externally powered  HDD connected via USB at Power-ON.
A power-cycle of the HDD will result in a correct detection almost instantaneously. The Internal HDD is always detected without problems. It looks like just the detection is not triggered and this probably can be fixed easily.

It is more an aggravation than a real problem as one needs to go to the box to get it going again, this instead of just using the remote. It depends of one's habits how big a problem it is. For Q5 Pro it will be the case more often I guess as that one does not have an Internal drive. resulting in more semi-permanent USB-HDD's to be connected.

Did you use the USB3 Port?

I had only with the USB3 ports problems, too with my Q5 4K.

Solution for me is, that I only use the USB2 ports.

I use the USB3 ports but a powered USB 3.0 hub is attached to it. Portable Hardiskk, Mouse, Keyboard goes to it.

You are absolutely right. Apparently they ported that problem too. Indeed it is detected on an USB2 port.
So it is an USB3 port specific problem. As the drive is USB3 it is most logical to use the USB3 port.

Changed the title accordingly.

Yes, I have a HDD case with four 3.5" HDDs, that runs on the USB2 Pots of Q5 K4 and Q10 Pro without any problems, and on their USB3 ports both have problems, in suddenly forgetting to recognize minimum one  of the HDDs in the case.
A little bit disappointing, that in the new Q10 Pro there is exactly the same problem.  :(

Can you tell me which HDD case you are using? Are you using > 2TB HDD with that?
Tried a HDD docking myself but > 2TB disks are not detected with that one. You need a case with sector translation.

I am using a FANTEC QB-35US3.
The HDDs in it: 1x6TB WD Green and 3x4TB WD Green
On USB2 Ports always without problems (as I wrote on Q5 4K and Q10 Pro), but if I plug it to the USB3 Port, it lasts some days and suddenly one or more of the HDDs are missing after a startup.  :o
If I then put the Fantec back to one of the USB2 ports, all HDDs are back again.  :)
Because of that problem, I try not to use the USB3 ports of the Mediaplayers any more.

Thanks  ;)
Just ordered the same one. I see it being replaced by FANTEC QB-35US3R which is a Raid version which I don't need.

Sorry, I too have the NOT Raid version.
But I think you have to replace the fan, because it is relativ loud.

Most boxes have a bad FAN which is (too) loud. Q10 Pro is a nice exception as normally the rule is "the smaller the FAN the more noise they make".
Will first put it on rubber mountings, have a few lying around. Will let you know the result.

Thanks for posting this. I hadn't heard about this as a problem with Q5 4K3D. It's possible HiMedia weren't aware of it.

With Q10 Pro, and the greater bandwidth requirement of 4K, more people will use USB3 HDDs so this becomes more of an issue.

I will make HiMedia aware of it.

Got the box installed. Thanks for pointing me into the Fantec direction. Had something else in mind but like this one better.
It is unique that it handles GPT with NTFS for drives > 2TB just like the Internal drive. Fully interchangeable which is really good.
It may even do 4Kn drives? Have none so can't test myself. :)

Indeed it makes some noise, but even without a fan the 4x HDD already can be heard from a distance. Using my rubber mounts is not possible due to the way the fan is mounted to the box. The smart fan control works fine and is used by me.

The great thing is, that it is written, that only up to 4x4TB HDD can be used.
Meanwhile I have 2x6TB and 2x4TB (that are 20TB!  :o) installed in it.

There are some flat and supersilent fans on Amazon, that I used to buy one and installed it to the Fantec.
With one of those the Fantec nearly isn't heard any more.  ;D

Maybe will go for another fan then too.

In fact got the new  fantec-qb-35us3-6g model (SATA support includes now SATA-III = SATA 6G) which specifies 4x 6TB max.
I am pretty sure there is no real upper limit and that 4x 8 TB will work too.

Yes, I think that you are right.
Latest in some months, when my 6TB HDDs aren't enough any more, we will see.  ;D
