Q5/Q10 Pro HDMI CEC/ARC problems
« on: April 23, 2016, 02:46:10 PM »
Like the previous version of Q10, this new Q10Pro seem to suffer the HDMI-CEC issue. Using the cable that came with the box, and connected to my YAMAHA RX-V573, the CEC was not working: so I have to switch on by ist own remote each device (TV-AMPLI-Q10Pro)
No fixed here; Have I to buy an adaptor or HDMI pin 13 fix (remove or avoiding contact with connector)

No, you don't need a blocker. HDMI-CEC appears  not to be implemented yet.

it's very boring, we told himedia many times.

Very easy to verify. Use a good sensitive Amp meter and measure the current on pin-13 to earth on the HDMI-bus during power off.
If you tell me what is measured I can confirm you if it has the same problem or not.  We are talking extreme low values here.

Please repeat the same test with Q10 Pro unplugged from power but with the HDMI cable still connected. Only if the problem remains when disconnected from power we are talking the same problem.

Ran a few tests myself and this is what I see:
- Q10 Pro does not block any HDMI-CEC communication when powered-off or in standby.
- Q10 Pro blocks communication when active (=powered-on) indeed. This is probably what you experience?
So I stick to my earlier statement for the time being, but you were absolutely right about experiencing HDMI-CEC problems once more.

It also has an active HDMI-audio/video signal when in standby  My AMP remains in HDMI-passthrough mode when put into standby as the consequence.
Saw an obscure parameter for that somewhere (Setup => Standby =HDMI suspend timer). Set it to 5 min (=minimum)  but this does not help.
Removing the Q10 Pro power or disconnecting the HDMI cable makes my AMP going into full standby straightaway.

It would not be boring but extremely sad. :'( :'( :'(
Still optimistic that this is not the case. They just did not implement it yet and by default it blocks communication, which is bad enough.
Also the active HDMI signal during standby needs to be fixed (not HDMI-CEC related).

thank you for your reply.
But how can I do it: It will be easy for you, but for me it seems not so easy. Is step by step tutorial possible?

Be sure to put Q10 Pro in standby when not using it. That is the only thing you can do. When active it blocks all features, I can't solve that.

We need to wait for a fix by Himedia. At least adding a functional "enable/disable" option should be easy to realize.

I know the problem with HDMI CEC has been mentioned in another thread but I'm just wondering if Himedia will fix this or will I have to buy a  LINDY HDMI CEC Less Adapter.

Does somebody know the progression in the HDMI-CEC story?
Coming from a brandless cheap Chinese Android box with a perfect working CEC, the missing of HDMI-CEC on the Q5 is a setback for me.

thanks!
Gert

Nothing mentioned about this problem yet.

Never seen a perfect working HDMI-CEC on any Android box. Please share with us what it does exactly and which features are configurable.

I have seen multiple media players with the Android Lollipop Google TV OS  (=Leanback Android) on it, which standard comes with a basic HDMI-CEC implementation (Q10 Pro does not use that OS version of Lollipop but is based on standard Lollipop for Smart-Phones not including HDMI-CEC code).
At least it does not cause malfunctions on the HDMI bus causing other boxes not communicating anymore. It also switches HDMI to the correct port at power-up.

Did not see the volume controls/mute working on the HDMI-CEC bus and/or configurable power up/down options ( what the AMP , TV or both should do when the media player is powered up or down). A basic HDMI-CEC implementation should offer at least these brand neutral functions.

Advanced HDMI-CEC could make the AMP and/or TV remote work for the player and navigation functions of Q10 Pro and a lot more.  Mostly this is implemented brand specific only.

From the video of Zidoo X9S we can see that it has HDMI-CEC function. I really hope that HiMedia can bring this feature as well in the future firmware. This is a must in today world, otherwise it is really messing the things up for people having CEC capable hardware.

Functional CEC has been requested from HiMedia. I will do so again.

As to Zidoo X9S, Zidoo have a history of promising a lot then not delivering (as, to be fair, do many manufacturers). There should be some real X9S reviews coming soon. I agree the product looks pormising, but what we see so far is advertising fluff.

Much appreciate, this is really much needed. You should be paid extra from HiMedia for all the support, thanks to which many opted for this product, including myself seeing such an active development of firmware :)

I have no reason to switch to any other product, only once Kabylake (or future AMD) is available and fully supported by Linux and Kodi - HEVC 10-bit, VP9, HDR, 2160@60p 4:2:0. Besides I read here that Android 7.0 will be released for Q10 Pro as well, which is awesome news (hope not rumour).
