New Beta Firmware update v2.1.22
« on: January 01, 2019, 12:21:09 PM »
The latest beta firmware now has HDMI IN recording. Great but it appears to only record the Video not the Audio.
I have tried to reord from my camcorder that works fine on x9s but that also only records the video and not the audio with x20
Swopped around HDMI leads ,nothing different.
Audio set to main port in x20so video and audio use same HDMI port
All films, music etc is working fine
Any ideas please

I haven't tested it, but my understanding of what Zidoo have said is that the audio must be PCM, not LPCM. So the audio stream going into the HDMI port must be 2-channel PCM.

Quick test and it definitely works.

Using an X20 Pro with 2.1.22 and a Dinobot U5 connected to HDMI in.

After launching the HDMI in app on X20 Pro and selecting PIP mode I can operate the Dinobot normally with HDMI ouput displayed in the X20 Pro PIP window. I've tested playing music / video. Audio from Dinobot plays through X20 Pro.

I dodn't test recording at all because the Dinobot is outputting a DHCP protected HDMI signal which the X20 Pro will not record (throws up a 'copyrighted material' notice). I will fix this and test recording tomorrow.

I have now done some more serious testing as follows
No sound through HDMI IN from my Canon g40 camcorder
No sound from my Nikon D500 videos
No sound from Samsung blu-ray /dvd player with personal dvd's
All  these work with x9s
I am now begining to think it may be a fault in the X20 ?
Could the HDMI IN port be faulty ?
Not been able to try since August as no record  available at that time
Last test.
Just tried playing from my x9s into x20 HDMI IN    again video only  NO SOUND
conected my camcorder to x9s HDMI IN  , x9s HDMI OUT to Denon amp ........video and sound so problem not in amp

It would be an extremely unusual HDMI fault, bordering on the impossible. The video and audio are bundled together.

I don't have a X9S here to test the X20 against, so I can't comment on why the behaviour is different except to say that the chipsets are different and the HDMI function on X20 is in it's infancy (one beta released last week).

If you really wanted to you could send the box to us and we could look at it.

I do feel that if you have fed a input from the Dinobod into the x20 and it works I can see no other than the x20 is to blame. one solder joint bad would do it.  three different devices cant all be wrong. This was purchased from you 1/8/2019 and is therefore under your waranty.
I am no tecky  but at 83yrs not the sharpest knife in the box.
Do I need a returns note from you ?

Do you have a camcorder or dvd player try that

HDMI is a digital signal, so the video and audio are intermingled. The audio comes in short bursts between video frames. This is why I'm 99+% sure the problem isn't hardware. If you get perfect video then the HDMI hardware is OK.

I think the problem is something to do with the audio signal being fed into the X20 being either copy protected somehow or not 48Khz PCM. I appreciate that it's strange why you are getting different results for X9S and without an X9S to test with I can't explain this.

There is one thing I've found deep in settings.

Go to: Other - About - Advanced Settings - Developer Options - Audio In. This should be set to HDMI. It is HDMI by default but changing it to any of the other settings would result in no audio from the HDMI in port.

It would be useful if anyone reading this with X20 (or X20 Pro/Z9S/Z10) could test and report back here.

The developer options Audio   in is fact set to HDMI.
The input I am using to the x20 is not in anyway copy protected.
I will leave it for a few days to see how other users get on.
Very disapointed  as you may remember when I bought it it was for the Hdmi in  and you offered me to return it and  a refund but I had allready paid out for two very large disc drives so I kept it.
In all other ways I am very pleased with it.
All my Music, Movies, Home movies, Jpegs,  are on it ,with back up to second disc

Do you think a factory re  install is worth a try, then udgrade to v2.1.22 ?
With nothing to loose have done a factory reset. SOUND set to raw
That has solved the problem HDMI IN  working fine now video and sound .
No idea what problem was but a reset solved it
