Surround AAC decoding
« on: November 09, 2015, 06:49:14 AM »
Hello,
I have a new question: is it possible to decode surround AAC and bitstream to multiple channel PCM on HDMI?
With last firmware surround AAC are bitstreamed only in stereo PCM, no matter what I do.
As far as I know there is no direct AAC bitstream support on HDMI 1.4 (only in 2.0).
I know that it's best to avoid any recoding and preserve original soundtrack (truehd, hdmaster) but there are many movies encoded with surround AAC sound for which I don't bother to search other encode.
Some small samples for AAC are at https://www2.iis.fraunhofer.de/AAC/multichannel.html and http://download.blender.org/peach/bigbuckbunny_movies/

And another not very important question, I find that this demo bluray http://www.avsforum.com/forum/19-dedicated-theater-design-construction/1491761-best-demo-discs-demo-disc-bd9-dvd-dl.html outputs truehd as zero PCM (no sound) if played from structure and normal/truehd if we play individual file from structure. I know it's related to bluray structure (other movies play fine) but it's curious.
Thanks!
