Q10 Pro Video issues
« on: August 24, 2018, 05:23:47 PM »
Hi

Sorry newbie with Q10 Pro here, which I have just purchased.

Previously I played 4K  UHD Bluray remux on built in player on LG B7 55 inch TV via USB HDD which had a stunning HDR picture except:

it glitches on certain movies.
No audio pass-through for TrueHD or DTS HD (I am using eARC through the LG > Yamaha RX 383

I now have connected the new Q10 Pro and after lots of adjusting (turning Imprex off, setting 2160p 60Hz / YCbCr 422 10bit the picture I get from Q10 is very flat and washed out vs LG's built in player..

In addition I gone and did a factory reset through Android option and now lost the ability to get Wrapper working through KODI
(In Wrapper app I 'Set to KODI' but no joy, KODI still plays with its own player, plus audio cuts off intermittently after fast forwarding or playing through several movies.

Will try the custom firmware on tonight ans see what happens.

I'm determined to get the most out of my purchase, what are your experience with pic quality on the Q10 pro? Have I set it up wrong?

Anybody with a LG OLED 7 series try playing a UHD 4K HDR video and see how it compares to same video on the Q10..on mine at least there's a noticeable flatness and washed out colors vs LG..

Not sure whether I should have bought an Nivida Shield or Apple 4KTV instead now..  :(

Have you also set the output to HDR or HDR: Auto in the HiMedia Settings-> More menu? At least the "washed out colors" suggests that it is set to SDR, or not switching properly to HDR, when a HDR video is played.
Secondly: make sure, that the Wrapper is activated and working. Se the FAQ, how to reactivate it.
And make 100% sure that the Imprex is tuned OFF entirely.

Tho' I have only a FHD, non HDR TV, but I get very decent video picture with the Box, also with 4K / HDR videos downscaled to FHD / SDR.

Maybe there's something other wrong with your TV's settings, check that as well. Sometimes you have to reset some values for the particular HDMI source the Box is Connected to (set label as Blu-Ray, and turn on Cinema/Film/Movie mode for that HDMI source). And make sure the player is connected to the proper HDMI port on your TV, in most cases there's a dedicated HDMI port suggested for media players.

And I would suggest to go with the OFW 2.0.6.

In my TV I get the best picture quality and color reproduction setting the HDMI port (connected to the Q10) as "PC".

Thanks all!

What I did last night (till 3am in the morning - I need to go out more lol!)

1) Updated the box to latest custom firmware (thanks to pcristi)
2) set the box to 2160p 60Hz +  YCbCr 422 10bit
3) Set the Wrapper up to KODI (Set to KODI > exit > Set to Wrapper > exit > reboot box) worked
4) Turned off all Imprex enhancements
5) Still had audio cut off issues (set sound output to RAW), finally changed HDMI cable that improved things and so far eliminated droputs (bar a few small occasions, and seems to have completely gone afterwards
6) Set my LG to Cinema Home mode HDR (for HDR 4k  movies) without fiddling with the settings (bar turning off Motionflow) - picture quality is now close to LG built in player  :)

Got it set up with mounted drives, shared to my PC and movie covers scraped.. now have a box with decent front end, great PQ and most awesome sound..thanks for all you suggestions, still learning but a lot happier with the box now ..
