Q10 / M3 issues with 3D playback SBS or TAB
« on: October 03, 2015, 01:13:50 AM »
Hi @ll,

I already spent a lot of time in this forum, finding solutions for my problems, help, hints and (what even HiMedia isn't able to provide) the right firmware for my devices.

Since this weekend I'm owner of the H8-Octa, Q10-4K3D and M3-4K3D.
First I received the H8 from AliExpress (China), which is gr8 but regarding the HD-Audio issues and missing wrapper for KODI pretty useless!

So I put aside my childish behavior to always have the newest/best machine and focused on the best reviews.
That's why I ordered the Q10 and M3 (because of the interesting shape and Bluetooth - but just want to keep one) two days after the arrival of the H8.

NOW MY ISSUE:
When I play a 3D MKV file (SBS or TAB) - NOT ALL / but pretty 50% of them - the aspect ratio switches from 16:9 with black bars on top & bottom to 4:3 with black bars left and right. I could switch the image to full screen, but it will only stretch the image without the black bars.
I will add some pictures to show what I mean.

The other 50% are played correctly leaving the display format untouched. The H8 on the other hand plays all of them correctly.

Is this a firmware issue? Wrong setting? My TizzBird N1 Stick played everything perfectly. Even in 1080p/24.
I wanted to replaced it, but it seems that none of these machines are working like promoted on the HiMedia website.

Could you pls help me to fix that? Otherwise I really have no reason to switch to one of these (at the moment useless and expensive!) boxes.

Thank you so much!

Cheers
-S-

On the settings photo you've posted you have TV aspect ratio set to 'Auto'. Does setting it 16:9 make any difference?

No it didn't... I even tried 4:3... but no worries anymore, I sent both players back an stick to the one day or later working H8 Octo player. Until then I bought a SAMSUNG BD-H6500 playing Amazon Prime Instant Video, Netflix, 3D MKV incl. subs perfectly... gr8 3D BluRay Player with 4K upscale for less than 80Euros... if someone needs more information about that, just write me a PM.

Hi to all
I have the same problem --aspect ratio
i have two player himedia (himedia 900b and himedia q10 4k3d)
playing a 3d file in hi900b include subtitles--simply the picture is perfect
in q10 when I play a 3D file the aspect ratio (16:9-4:3-auto)it's wrong - doesn't work
-Picture wrong-subtitles don't have depth...
-superior hi900b in 3d
I hope a new FW to solve the problem
Thanks

Hello.
I have the same issue with some of my 3d movies, not all of them, some works good and some doesn't.
It's the same issue RnBADBoY explains.
I've already installed the new firmware (30 dec) but it's the same as the previous firmwares.
Any solution, idea or suggestion?
Thanks a lot for the replays.
Juan

We can all agree that HiMedia is in the right direction but need to refine more things. Like Bugs you guys are pointing and Kodi integration...
We all have spend a good amount of money for these boxes...

Removing the Himedia wrapper helps when running Kodi as Kodi's handling of 3D SBS or OU works ok. However I cannot get it to reliably switch to 24p. Mediaplayer switches to 24p but screws up the 3D video aspect ratio.
I need to try a few more options but at least the frame dropping is less of a problem than squashed up video.

Having the wrapper active and selecting the native Kodi player from the menu when Media Player playback messes up appears to be the best solution for now. So long as your TV supports 1080p 60hz this seems to be the least objectionable native frame rate for 24p 3D HSBS.
