... with this solution?

Right, so the Egreat 10a arrived end of last week. I first tried connecting it to one of the hdmi ports on the receiver, a Marantz sr7008, just two and a half years old. No picture and no sound. After Googling and changing inputs back and forth it suddenly occurred to me that the receiver doesn't support 4k, so I moved the Monster cable to an hdmi port on the tv, an LG oled55c6v. That gave me a picture at least and I could go ahead and upgrade the firmware on the 10a. But there was still no sound when I played my music files via the vidon xbmc - not even through the tv's speakers.

Next step: fitted an optical cable from the media box first to the receiver, no result (probably because I don't know what button to press on the receiver's remote), then to the tv, no result, then to my Samsung soundbar. Worked yesterday, but not today for some reason.

Been attempting to set up a bluetooth connection. According to the setup page, the 10a detects a bluetooth connection between it and the soundbar - only thing missing is the sound.

It also found the tv, and asked me to type a pairing code, but it didn't say where to  type it (nothing appeared on the tv screen like a little window to enter the code).

In the meantime I've ordered a Cablesson 4x4 splitter. That might help.

As a last resort I reduced the resolution setting on the 10a from 4k uhd 60hz to 1080p 60hz, and plugged the hdmi cable into the receiver. That produced a picture (of sorts), but dreadfully distorted, low volume sound. Not a good solution.

So that's how I've spent the first four evenings. Get there in the end, no doubt, only hope I live long enough :-)

... just after I posted this, sound appeared on through the tv speakers and soundbar. The only connection from the10a is the hdmi The optical cable to the TV, and an optical cale from the tv to the soundbar - unless someone's been sprinkling magic bluetooth dust around...

First thing I would do is abandon optical. Unless you have to use it (i.e. you have an old optical only AVR) it is limited in what it can carry (5.1 max) and is more fiddly to set up.

You mention VidonXBMC. To simplify getting everything working please use the built-in media player to start with (VIDEO from main menu).

For the purpose of getting sound working normally through the AVR (avoiding complications) turn off Bluetooth. Settings - General - Bluetooth - Off.

So.. A10 connected to Marantz AVR using HDMI connected to TV using HDMI.

On A10, go Settings - Sound:

Output interface: HDMI
Passthrough: Auto
DTS compatibility mode: Off
TrueHD compatibility mode: Off.

You should get all audio correctly passed to the Marantz AVR. ?

To enable audio passthrough in VidonXBMC go (in VidonXBMC) SYSTEM - Settings - System - Audio output:

Audio output device: VIDONME: vidon, hdmipcm
Number of channels: 7.1
Ebnable passthrough: YES
Passthrough output device: VIDONME, hdmi
Dolby Digital capable receiver: YES
Dolby Digital Plus capable receiver: YES
DTS capable receiver: YES
TrueHD capable receiver: YES
DTS-HD capable receiver: YES

Hi folks at futeko, thanks for taking the trouble to write a reply :-)

Right, optical is abandoned, and sound properties are changed as you advised.

Connected hdmi cable from 10a to 'media player' input on receiver (double checked input assignments at the same time. Hdmi out goes from receiver to tv). The message on the screen is 'no signal' please check the input connection'. No sound, no picture.

I've tried changing where the cable from the receiver meets the tv, to no avail. Think I'll go back to where I was yesterday and wait for the hdmi splitter. I'm beginning to think though that the marantz just isn't up to the job. Ot's not designed to handle 4k signals from anywhere.

Solution to the problem of 4K signal passthrough through the Marantz sr7008 receiver.

After considerable sleuthing and gnashing of teeth, a solution has been found to this problem. To get the receiver to pass through a 4K signal, you have to go to setup > video > output settings. When there, you have to turn 'video conversion' off.

My other settings in the HDMI Setup and Output Settings departments are:

HDMI Pass Through - on
HDMI control - off
Pass Through Source - select whichever is needed at the moment. I vary between cbl/sat and media player. It's annoying having to go into setup to change what's passed through when the receiver is sleeping, but there's no alternative I don't think.
Power O? Control - off

Output Settings
Video Mode - auto
Video Conversion - off

I'm still experimenting, but at least I get a picture from the Egreat 10a via the receiver, and sound to my floor standing loudspeakers when I want to, or passed through to the TV otherwise.

hi pluto46 i have a marantz sr7007 and a egreat a11 what seems to be the problem , are you sure you have hdmi out from monitor 1.
not sure what you mean by this , I vary between cbl/sat and media player. It's annoying having to go into setup to change what's passed through when the receiver is sleeping, but there's no alternative I don't think.

on input/input assign ,if your only using hdmi.  on  the digital and comp side they should all say none when there all checked go back to inputs go into input select on input mode select auto and decode mode select auto to .hope this helps
