it is playing just fine on Denon AVR-X4200W.
What is your DTS version?
DTS version is 3.90.35.00
Thanks. I upgraded from 3.90.35.00 to 3.90.50.00 three weeks ago. Be careful. I'll check with my ancient 1911 later.
My AVR does not offer me to upgrade to 3.90.50.00. It says 3.90.35.00 is the latest version. Did you use upgrade from AVR or some kind of manual upgrade? Is there a possibility to downgrade?

It was not manual but an offered OTA upgrade, firmware has changed from 5400-9380-4472 to 5200-2411-4413.

Final results:

No problems with Q5pro DTS-HDHR on the old 1911.

God damn you, Denon, you blew it!

Not that the Denon X3200W (with new DTS version 3.90.50.00) does not handle DTS-HDHR. It still works from the old NeoTV media player, the Blu-ray disc player, and the UltraHD disc player. But not with the Q5pro, or the laptop anymore (VLC3, Kodi Leia, Fab Player 5).

I can only warn people, don't buy a new Denon AVR, or upgrade the firmware, until this nasty bug has been fixed. Maybe it's not a bug at all but intention.

This shows it might be a Denon's problem or at worse compatibility problems, where nowadays thing are complex and is therefore quite common that is very hard if not impossible to determine whose fault is it.

But the number of firmware you gave is very strange - all the segments of the new serial number have lower number, which can mean one thing and that is they actually rolled out older firmware as new one? Maybe that is the whole problem?

Hi, I received a quote from Himedia export today
Hi, sir,

We tested the DTS-HD HR file, but it work without any problem.

Please find attached video took by us for your reference.

----------------------DENON---------------------------------------

answer from Denon today about the DTS-HD HR problem. I

Thank you for your inquiry.
We examined the phenomenon you described in our house and were unable to reproduce it.

There have been necessary changes to the DTS codec to ensure proper playback of DTS software using DTS certified player software. These were implemented as part of a maintenance update at the request of DTS. We can confirm that all DTS sound formats up to DTS-HD Master or DTS-HD High Resolution Audio or DTS:X Master and DTS:X are correctly recognized and decoded by certified player software during the internal tests. We have tested players from different manufacturers and also Cyberlink PowerDVD on one PC. No problems were found.

Probably the software your player (?) uses is not verified.

With kind regards

Hi, I received a quote from Himedia export today
Thanks for your contribution Marvel.
It is exactly what I was afraid of and already predicted in previous post - it's some sort of compatibility issue. The solution is pretty simple in theory and that is that Denon and Himedia engineers work/seat together to find the cause of the problem. Will that happen? Well, I wouldn't bet on it - joke aside, since you already have correspondence with them you can reply to Himedia people that only combination with latest DTS codec in Denon AVRs is causing problems. Also you can give some hint to Denon's people that new codes might be all and shiny, but somehow breakes compatibility with some devices.
Who knows, maybe some of them will care for customers and dig into problem... ::)

No, it's the new DTS version. But because not everybody got it, or installed it, the no-HR bug seems to be so inconsistent.

If you guys have interest, read in this topic https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters/issues/167 how Nevcairiel succesfully fixed the bug for his Open-Source DirectShow LAV Audio Decoder in Windows.

So I have sent all the links to various forums reporting about the DTS HR problem. Denon, Himedia and DTS. One will cause the problem and should be able to fix it.

Uau, thanks to information from this post, things are clearer now. Probably many source equipment, including Windows, Himedia Player,...) followed DTS specification maybe in 99,9 %, while DVD, BluRay players and some software like PowerDVD did it 100%. Those 99,9% were good enough until DTS came out with latest version of DTS decoder. For some reason, justified or not, those changes now require source equipment to be 100% compatible and therefore many players no longer work correctly with DTS-HD HR.
I'm not really a pessimistic person, but based on the experience of bug fixing history I would say we probably won't see the fix on Himedia...For those of us that did not yet update AVR's FW and if you need DTS-HD HR support, my advice would be not to update it.

Of course, I ask Futeko to submit the bug to Himedia - as reported by few users this was not an issue with 2.0.4 and prior for example.

But if you look at Nevcairiel's code change (it's open source!), it really doesn't look THAT complicated. Just a little tweak, and the Q5/Q10Pro would be 100% compatible again!

Although I haven't check the code I believe the change is not complicated. But that alone is not the only factor if Himedia will fix it or not. We can only ask and hope.

BTW, Futeko always says it's "only" a reseller and the only thing they can do is to report them to Himedia. In that case can Futeko please provide us with support contact at Himedia? There are plenty of us guys out there which are willing to proactively offer support to them by identifying/reproducing the issue. Just see this specific issue how far we've all come - such info provided by fuschnick to Himedia what specifically should be changed in the code to fix the issue is/should be very valuable to Himedia - at least if they care about us customers just a little bit.

This is the mail address for the support exportb@himedia.cn the nice guy calls himself Stone. I already got a not so nice solution from Denon.

Denon Mail
Thank you for your inquiry.
Due to the requirements of the DTS Codec, we cannot offer you a change here.

Please check whether the playback phenomenon also occurs via a player with certified software (e.g. Cyberlink PowerDVD ). If so, please contact your authorized Denon dealer where you purchased your A/V receiver.

With kind regards

We really should write everyone there, that you will have a file with DTS-HD HR at some point.
