My second Q5 pro. No remote works anymore. Again...
« on: September 07, 2017, 08:34:01 PM »
As I wrote in the title this is my second Q5 as the first one turned into a brick during an android upgrade. I received a new one from Futeko paying only the mailing costs.
Now, just like it happened with my first Q5 no remote seems to work anymore. I TRIED 3.
All remotes put the Q5 in stand-by, they don't switch it off: (monitor goes black,  but the led panel and the on/off button stay blue). This means that I have to manually swtch off the Q5 to be able to use the remote again the next morning.
Is seems that every Q5 has the same problem after a couple of months, is there a way to make an hard reset without turning it into a brick?

If you use the HiMedia IR remote supplied with the product does it turn the box on/off correctly?

Other remotes (including Rii MX3) need to be programmed to replicate the HiMedia remote power on/off. See here: http://www.futeko.com/simg/mx3-m%20user%20guide.jpg

Of course not, I tried 3 including the one supplied with the Q5.

This problem is not typical, I have seen no other reference to it with thousands of Q5 Pro sold.

It's an obvious thing, but could the remote batteries need changing?

Q5 Pro can be reset to factory condition by doing a firmware install using restore button method. See here for 2.0.4 firmware: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2097.0

As I wrote, it happens with 3 different remotes: it should be a battery epidemic. I also wonder why, if batteries needed changing, everything should work except for putting a Q5 into the stand-by mode instead of switching it off. It seems a little voodoo phisics.

The same thing happened with my first Q5, from my point of view it's typical. Happens everytime.

What if I try to reset it and it turns into a brick like my first Q5? Has anyone another idea?

I'm experiencing a similar problem with my Q10 Pro.

Suddenly no remote will operate it - not the included remote, not the Logitech programmable remote, not the HiControl app - all of which worked  fine previously.

Does a firmware update fix it?

If not then it could be a hardware failure of the IR receiver. This would be unusual but not impossible.

I had similar issues with the remote on my Q10 Pro (the supplied one). Sometimes it does not take input, especially with the middle button (labeled OK). A friend of mine that is an electronics engineer told me that it is a know issue with some IR remotes. He opened the IR remote and fixed the center button. I am using a wireless keyboard with a touchpad a lot of times alongside the IR remote, so I am not too bothered by the IR remote as I was in the beginning. I bought my Q10 pro from an online retailer in Romania, it was brand new, not used (FYI).

I'm afraid I couldn't properly explain the problem:
1. I have a Q5. I'm not particularly interested in satisfied Q10 owners experiences, but I'm happy for you.

2. The problem is only one: it puts the Q5 in stand-by (the led light remains blue and the monitor goes to sleep) instead of switching  the Q5 off (red light).

3. It happens using 3 different remotes- it must be a problem of the Q5.

4. I did not install any app. So  I really wonder what else a futeko  customer can do to cause the exact same problem in 2 different machines?

What do you mean by 3 remotes? Which remotes exactly?

This problem should not happen using the IR remote included with Q5/Q10 Pro.

With USB airmice/remotes this problem can happen when the IR function is not programmed correctly. The USB power on/off is putting the box in standby when Q5/Q10 Pro do not properly support standby. On/off needs to be triggered by IR command.

I thought you had problems with the physical keys, like I used to have. That is different and Futeko should be able to help you. Please mention what remotes are you using (officially provided one or any other third party ones).

Sorry but I wonder if you read your customer's messages before replying.
I mean that neither the official physical remote I received with the Q5, nor the official remote mode on the himedia app, nor a third party remote called GHB properly work. I mean that all of them put the Q5 in stand-by instead of switching it off when I push the off button.
Yes, I changed the batteries.

If this has happened to two Q5 Pros then it must be being caused by something you're doing to the box (installed software). There have been zero similar cases, and because of the different communication methods of the three remotes you list it definitely isn't a hardware problem.

I advise installing latest firmware using the method outlined in our firmware thread.

Ok, now I'm quite sure you do not read your customers' messages before replying   ::)

I've just made a factory reset and nothIng changed, I'd really appreciate you not writing "you should make a factory reset" in the next message, please...
