Q10 Pro torrent capability and suggestions please.
« on: August 06, 2017, 05:15:10 PM »
Hello!

So I'm planning to buy a 4TB internal HDD for my Q10 Pro, mainly for storing data (reaching it from PC via LAN) and mostly for torrenting. My question is that how fast it could download torrents to the internal HDD and are there any warnings or incompatibilities I should be ware about regarding torrent clients? My goal would be 10MB/s download speed, while still be able to watch a FHD video simultaneously on the Q10 Pro (even when streaming it from another computer via the LAN). Is this conception possible, or what are will be the compromises or limitations?

And what are your -Android- torrent client suggestions would be? I want a client that could be easily managed remotely from another computer or mobile device (like via web interface).

Oh, and I'm using cable and I'm using 1.0.9 fw, but planning to update to CFW 2.0.4.

Thanks for the replies!

Hi,
Some torrent clients don't let you download directly to the hard drive and had issues with others that had to have wifi enabled (think it was fixed with 2.04).
I'm using ttorrent wich works fine, can download to the sata hd and works with magnet links. It has a bug, if you erase torrent + data it won't erase data correctly from the hard drive. I use ES Explorer to erase data and ttorrent for the torrent file.
About speeds I get the same as my pc (2.4 MB/s)

Your internet or router speed is limited somehow? 2.4MB/s is not very fast. I can get almost 10MB/s with my laptop with a 100Mbit Ethernet adapter. (That would be the minimum goal for the Android Box as well.)

Oh, and thanks for the reply! :)

What I have contracted with my isp is 24Mbps so 2.4MBps is good enough :)

The only app that had web management and did not crash on the Q10 Pro was zetaTorrent https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teeonsoft.ztorrent

torrent client is dead of HDD read/write performance, usually client torrent write and read continuously data from and to HDD, so decrease sequential performace read of big file .

 the only solution are:
- increse cache to 32 or 64 mb, increse RAM usage but decrease HDD usage
- limit active torrent
- decrese global number of peers and  peers number of torrent

- buy a NAS with trasmission, usually you can found about  50-70 eur .

torrent client also reduce HDD life , write and read continuously is dead of HDD.

Thanks, but talking about possible technical difficulties and details in general sense, doesn't help me getting much closer to answering my particular question.

Ok, so let me answer this to myself: the hardware (mainly the processor) of the Q10 Pro is rather weak for many peer/torrent simultaneously downloads.

How about limiting the max peer number to 100/150 (or lover) in the client?! Would it ease the performance issues? Anyone actually using his box for torrenting and could add some relevant details, how it works out in practice?!  :???

Thank you!

it's not  a   Q10 Pro  issues , all ARM device  have same  issues .

My NAS  with trasmission ON  decrease to 20 MB/s , with trasmission off switch to  40-60MB/s.

Only  x86 PC / device have strong  SATA I/O, ARM device is more limited.

I actually used Q10 Pro as a download server for a few months before I bought an oDroid XU4 that is my main NAS right now. If you plan to stream from it while it downloads/uploads and you are also watching a movie, that would be too much. It was just seeding in the background and I watching movies from time to time. I did not notice any issues back then. I tried not to stress it too much. I would put the downloads to run over the night or when I was not using it. I had pretty good copying speeds with it to my PC (70-80 MB/s witn a Gigabit ethernet).

Setting up the torrent client is another story. I would recommend either getting a dedicated NAS or getting an oDroid XU4/RPi3 to use as a NAS. I highly recommend XU4 because it has Gigabit ethernet and a lot more power than RPi3.

Ok so,  there were have the  tTorent (which doesn't able delete torrented files) and zTorrent so far as suggestion. What about Flud or Vuze?! And I have forgot to mention that I also want a client that is able to be controlled remotely from my Windows PC. tTorrent have an access option trough a simple web interface, any other torrent that is able to be controlled like this?
