tried all modes, tv says unsupported, reverts back to
ycbcr420 8bit

You have to activate hdmi deep color on tv hdmi settings.

turns out my receiver( yamaha 2060) defaults to mode 2, settings buried deep in manual
himedia box defaults to YCbCr422 but doesent denote 8 or 10 bit
also had to dial back display setting to 2160p 30Hz to keeps from flickering
