Static from rear speakers

Hi all,

I took delivery of my Q10 Pro yesterday and after making all the connections I thought I would give it a go. Unfortunately it would appear to not support portable USB drives in OSX Journaled format which is not the end of the world. However I have been able to access my media over UPNP but no matter what application I try (media player, kodi, Plex, You Tube) they all result in static coming out of my rear speakers. It is so bad that you cannot hear anything from the front. I have tried all available settings on the unit but none seem to work. I have the Q10 plugged into my Onkyo NR646 via HDMI and I know that the input is ok as I have also tested this. Interestingly the Q10 only seems to output PCM, I am not sure if this is the issue.

Apologies for jumping straight into the bad news without an introduction but I wondered if any of you could help, otherwise I will just have to return the unit.

 it would be good to know which Android Version and which Firmware Version you run the q10.

Generally you should play all files by Himedia wrapper, not the Kodi wrapper....using Firmware 2.0.1 and Kodi 17.1 all audio formats inkl Dolby atmos/DTS:X are running well  by using Himedia wrapper.......!!! multichannel audio formats are not running by streaming in Kodi only by USB and Himedia wrapper..they were all forced to PCM 2.0....Good luck!!

This issue would appear to be more of a settings/setup problem rather than hardware related.
I'd suggest using only the MediaCenter initially, to play test files (as that just works and cuts out other settings from Kodi/SPMC/Plex etc.)

Have you changed HDMI cables?

Directly test a USB thumb drive with a video that has multi-channel audio (that you do know that works fully) directly into the unit and confirm it plays correctly to your AVR.  Then it is a matter of sorting out what is possibly wrong with settings in Kodi and the wrapper. 

Did you update firmware before testing?  What version are you running now?

After an evening of messing about with the settings on both the Onkyo and Q10 I am admitting defeat. I have tried the wrapper and making multiple changes to the input settings on my receiver. The best I have achieved is no static from the rear speakers but nothing more than PCM stereo. My previous streamer was a Mede8er which worked out of the box. It is a bit annoying that the Q10 is problematic.

Ah, I answered your email earlier today, but reading your original post here I see that you are using UPnP. I think that is where the 2 channel PCM problem is coming from.

HiMedia Player (wrapper and HiMedia app) use a different player for UPnP and it does not support multi-channel audio.

Solutions are to either use SMB or NFS for your network shares or to use a different player on the Q10.
